What side of town do you live on? I live on base (duh) so I know I'm basically south Tucson. I'll find somewhere in the middle, if I know where "middle" is.

I do wish there was a dirtier way to get there (here) that wouldn't get various people's noses out of joint...

Well, riding a pure road-bike, i try to avoid the "dirtier" paths. I'm looking at arivaca road to 286, then up to 86 then head out to 386(the road up to Kitt if I recall).

Remember to watch out for all the off-camber corners on Arivaca Road.

I am southeast, near Rita Ranch.
That time of the day on Saturday, it would only take me about 15-20 minutes to get on base.

Well, not sure if you could get on the base. We can meet at CSA at 22nd and Kolb. Ride from there down Kolb to valencia then over to 19 to get down to arivaca.

PS. I've ridden arivaca once before, not too long ago. Great road, would love to do it at a more brisk pace (50-70ish instead of 30-50), but I enjoy it a little slower, though I have a hard time not getting distraced by the scenery.

Arivaca is a nice road and a blast to ride depending on the amount of traffic.

The only really difficult aspect is that practically all the corners are off camber. So, what looks like an easy corner to blast through suddenly feels like a decreasing radius curve as you go through and the pavement falls away instead of banking around. Once you make it through the first few and get a feel for how the look of the curve doesn't align with the feel of the curve, it's easier to judge your approach to the rest.

Okay, so the last sentence helps. There's a diamond shamrock at Kolb and Valencia that I can meet you at. It all depends on how far north you want to come before we turn and go west then south. Most of the comments about Arivaca are true, some of the corners are off camber, but the biggest things to worry about are idiots on crotch rockets, and the cattle guards that they irritatingly placed in the middle of some of the corners.

I won't run off and leave you if you aren't right behind me the entire time. I'm not THAT much of an inconsiderate n00b, but I like to ride at a brisk pace, most of the time. It really depends on what song is playing at the time.

Is there a good dirt bike suspension person in the Tucson area. I just got a near-new DRZ but the PO put lowering links on it and took out much of the pre-load. Not sure what they did to the rebound etc. so would like to get it set up by a professional. I put the OEM bones back in and cranked in some preload and it doesn't seem too bad. I'm not a racer, just a trail rider but I'd like to get it close to what it should be for my size and riding style. Any info on a good shop locally would be appreciated.
