If it was a handsome guy with a beautiful red/white jacket, matching helmet, awesome Sidi boots and a very loud exhaust, it just might have been me.

I like to do an "A" Mountain/Gates Pass quick ride on Sundays, and was definitely at Silverbell/Speedway about the time you mentioned.

Were you riding or in your cage?

Was in the Wife's cage with the fam. Saw you come out of the store and head off to a bike but the only scoot I;d seen up that moment was that Bandit a few slots south of you. Then you lined up on the XR and I had to know if you were an ADVer.

See you out riding sometime!

Hey Gummee!:

I'm game for a ride. Are we looking at 4/26/09?

What's the snag on plating that beast?

Dave

Nice write up and pics. I was thinking that might be a good place to take Gummee! for his first dirt ride on the ATK.

I've never been there either. How far can you go on the Power line trail?

Russ

Story of my life at the moment.

Need mounting stuff for an 8" race light, taillight, and at least one pressure switch. I'm a WY resident, so plating it here is

Man, that would be embarrassing, to say the least. Making fun of a 0mph get off (or near get off) would be bad karma, for sure. I ain't sayin' nothin'.

I almost had a few of those while riding with boots with long laces. Interesting feeling....

That's too bad. That bike would make a great DS hooligan scooter.

Keep us posted on the when's and where's.

You can do quite a bit of sploring' out there. Here's a screen shot of the topo of the area (check out www.gpsfiledepot.com to get free topo maps of az):

The general trails we were on Saturday are marked by the green (at least I think that's where we were - my gps kept loosing bike power and blinking in and out b/c I haven't committed to hard-wiring the cradle onto the XR yet and some parts were pretty rough and rocky) but you can see there's plenty to check out. Definitely makes for a good place to go if you have a bike that isn't plated (and have a way to get it there).

We off-loaded off of Old Soniota Rd at the second gate south from the Soniota Hwy/Old Soniota Rd intersection just south of I-10 (the gate is on the east side of the road). For some unknown reason the topo map shows Old Sonoita Rd as Charolais Rd.

This particular topo is nice b/c it shows the rail lines as well as the power lines (in black) which is kind of nice for scouting out potential trails to check out.

Thanks Rave,

Some of the guys I work with ride that trail sometimes. They are learning how to ride and have 250cc dirt bikes. I think I'll check it out on my big bike this Friday. I could ride that trail after work since it's only a few miles from the Rita Road Raytheon facility.

Hi guys, I'm plugging again!
Mark your calendars for May 9. We're going to have a little trip report/party/slide show for our trip to Baja that we took a couple of weeks ago. I'm thinking sonoran hotdogs, brews, and pictures. We have 4.5 acres down in sahuarita so you can pair the party with a ride or whatever that ends at our place if you like. I made the same note on the klr website. You can also bring a tent if you want to camp out in our backyard. More details to come. PM me your email addy for directions and let me know if you plan to come so I can start counting for food. Oh yeah, please bring a side, or soda or dessert or something to share like that.

RSVP!

The 250's will do great out there. There's nothing too overly technical except the washes. Obviously there are a number of small washes that aren't a big deal and the big wash that ate the XR is avoidable. I hadn't thought we'd made it as far east as Cienega creek but we must have done because the wash I got stuck in is at the Davidson Canyon I-10 bridge and I'm pretty sure that's Cienega creek in Davidson Canyon.

Here's a close up showing the route we should have taken (straight across) in pink. The route the little bikes took once they got into the wash in blue. The route that ate the XR at it tried to follow and then decided turning back was a better idea in orange.

There are a couple of hill-climbs (or downhills depending on your direction) that take some concentration and obviously some washed out places that you don't want to misjudge and hit too hard.

Probably the most difficult thing is keeping track of where you are at since there's lots of cuts (between power lines, gas lines and ranch road) and it's easy to get turned around.
