I have met "Fred" personally...it is a good thing he does most of his business via mail order..(edited to remove my true feeling about the guy).

So, uh . . . has anyone heard from Becky? It looks like she doesn't have her SPOT tracking on, and hasn't sent any messages in 4+ days.

Ouch. I guess you are hoping the battery for her internet is down too? You might want to when she gets back!

Sorry, I've been listening to the 60's channel on XM a lot lately. Seems almost appropriate music for working on my escape vehicle, an ancient and somewhat decrepit motor home.

Why was the devil's spawn working on your Suzi 500 in your garage?

Maybe it's the heat.

The SuziQ 500 isn't mine. It is a friend's that is in litigation per the lemon law. The bike had problems, one of the biggest was SlimNow was the ones who tried to fix it. Problem bike + problem dealer = big mess.

Hey guys! Sorry about my SPOT malfunction...I'm alive and well in Puerto Penasco now.

For the record, I -thought- I had spare batteries, but they were AA and I needed AAA...it's impossible to find lithium batteries in Mexico. But there really hasn't been anything to worry about anyway. It's nice down here but wicked hot in the afternoon. I've become a siesta connoisseur.

You did have spares but we used them in your GoPro

So Tomorrow and thursday to get ready for my part of the trip, I need to:
Change the Front Tire
Check the Valves
Install New Headlight
Go over every bolt with a wrench and or screw driver

And my water pump started leaking out the weep hole so I need to drain the oil and coolant and change the seals on the impeller shaft. THAT should be fun At least I was going to change the coolant anyway...

Also I have an extra clutch cable: My current cable is the original one 34,000 miles old. Should I:
A) Change it now
B) Leave it but bring the spare
C) Dont worry about it

Inspect the cable. If no signs of wear, leave the cable in place and bring your spare for comfort if you want.
No kinks, no fraying, and smooth action is how it should be.

Personally, if the cable on it now passes the above checks, I wouldn't bring the new cable.

the water pump seals aren't too bad, getting the o-ring inside the impeller is the tough part. the mechanical seal is pressed in but can be handled with a socket and hammer. same for the oil seal. probably want to get your hands on the gasket for the clutch and impeller covers... you'll probably break them when you take the cover off. do you have the parts already? check out the oil screen at the bottom of the engine while you have the cover off too. i'll help you out if you want and we can line our schedules up.

lube your clutch cable and check the ends. my clutch cable was improperly installed (my fault) on the lower end of the cable and it didn't last 1000 miles that way. if you already have a new cable though, i'd lube the new one and slap it in. your old one could go 100k+ miles, but who wants a new clutch cable sitting around for that long?

Cable GUY

Route the new clutch cable alongside the old one. Secure it there and when the old one breaks it will take you a few minutes to change it out.

Not having a cable when one breaks is like the old pilot saying...........I'd rather be down here on the ground wishin' I was up there, than to be up there wishin' I were down here.

I've had to ride out without a clutch before. It's a lot of work, not too much fun and the rest of the ride weekend was shot because I didn't have a spare.

Right! Also keeps the cable from getting lost, tossed, or 'borrowed.
