If you guys know anything about other used dual sports looking for new ownership, my boyfriend is still on the hunt, he's on a more limited budget ($2000-$2500) but not as picky about having something new and pretty. He does need something reliable though, it's his commuter!

We also have some adorable scooters to trade! :P

Haha my bf was just emailing him about it last night. He was really considering it, but it needs a $200-300 kit to add turn signals, it's kick start only and has no lock and key.

He's going to look at an older KLR today, but he's third and line and that makes me uneasy. It will probably sell before he gets to see it, but if not, why didn't it? What's wrong with it?

That depends on the vantage point - like from the slow-poke vantage-point, that's usually where I am. You seem plenty fast to me, goodtimes!

We'll be at the Red Garter Thursday if we make it back from northern Sonora in time. We'll be there for a couple days to check out a research and conservation project - jaguars & ocelots. We'll be ready for a couple cold ones after the long drive back up in the heat.

My NX250 is back to rideable though I need new throttle cables - on order. Been looking at routes around the Sierritas - a complete circumnav off-pavement.

We're still working out the details of the sale, but it will be mine soon! Mike is a super nice guy and he gave me some riding lessons today. I stalled a lot and fell over once (don't stop on a slope, particularly one with gravel on it :P) but it was fun!! I -have- concluded that it was naive of me to believe I could just buy it and be off riding with you guys right away. There is definitely a learning curve from the scooter and I'm going to need a lot of practice before I undertake anything remotely challenging. I'm going back tomorrow morning to ride more circles in the neighborhood. :)

After a little practice on t he bike, I recommend taking the Experience Rider Course. I took it through Team Arizona, call Ridenow for a phone number. It helps you get acquainted with your bike and you will learn skills to keep you upright and safe.

Hey Becky...glad it's working out for you two. I know Mike is bugging me to buy one of my TW200's. Actually what you should do is borrow one of my TW's and spend a day riding that around, as a step up to your KLR. I will probably have a TW at Bike Nite tomorrow if my friend rides it over. You can take it for a spin then too. My TW has been loaned to go through the DMV drivers course more than any other bike around.

I'll miss seeing y'all at the Garter tomorrow night but I'm in Colorado doing a quick tour of some twisties! Lots of interesting and tempting dirt but I'm on the ST for this trip. The pavement's sure nice enough, though!

Yes I was looking into that intermediate riders course but you need to supply the bike for those...aaannd I would need a little more time in the saddle to take the klr to something like that. I am very interested in trying a TW200 though! Easier to get confidence in this crazy shifting business without the threat of impromptu wheelies.

Plenty of things to worry about...but wheelies aren't one of them (on a KLR).

That is not to say you can't do a wheelie on a KLR, but you have to work at 'em...
