That $30 fender turned into $300 in all new goodies for her.

Hey Flygirl, Contact "willthespill" on the site he's a real good rider and he can ride during the week. Ride On! Phil

I'd talked about this a couple of years ago and just got interested again.

Anyone interested in helping checking and/or collecting tracks to put together a big event here in Tucson? The idea is to have a one day 300+ mile, high speed loop around the outskirts of Tucson. It would roughly cover the route: Mammoth, Camino Rio, Freeman Rd., Parklink Rd., around the west side of Silverbell mine, down to Three Points, around the south side of Keystone Peak and the mines.... You get the idea, a route one valley away from Tucson, all the way around.

We've got a pretty good start with local knowledge and the DualSportMaps.com data base, but I'd like to clean up and scout a few changes. Particular areas that need some work are:

Silverbell Mine to Three Points
Couple of small sections south of Three Points
Couple of small sections west of Green Valley
Connection between the BLM Cienega (north of Sonoita) and Pomerene
Connection between Freeman Rd and Parklink Rd.

Anyone have a GPS and want some tracks to go check and collect some fresh ones?

I think I may start a dedicated thread if enough folks are interested.

We could also expand it to a multi-day, more technical route as well.
In!

Have many tracks around Tucson already (check dualsport maps) - as I am sure you do. Also am retired and can ride most days.

Anybody in for the ride tomorrow? If not, could be a lonely ride.

This is an awesome idea! I have most of the tracks, with exception of those very south. The "off road" version of the route could easily be 70% dirt.

A couple of thoughts about your requests:

Silverbell Mine to Three Points: In my experience, there is no "fast" route through the Ironwood Forest, plus you have to go through Nation territory. One possible route "around there" is Avra Valley to Sandario to Ajo Hwy to Three Points. All slab.

Small sections of 3 points: Which direction, how far? I have a few routes from Three Points through the wildlife preserve to Amado.

Connection between Freeman Road and Park Link: The only connection is the Florence Hwy.

There may be other routes that exist, and I'm sure someone will chime in with some ideas, but I'm happy to contribute what I can.

Later...

- KeVin

Excellent.

I have all the ones available from DSM. Would like to fill some gaps or change routing a bit. I think I'll start making some routes from GoogleEarth that I'd like to check and post them in a dedicated thread and see if people can check them when they plan on riding different areas. If I weren't feeling crappy, I'd like to check my Ironwood routes I looked at today. Essentially Silverbell Mine to Three Points.

Emerson, Flashman, Rumple, this ride will be really epic with the three of your knowledge. I will be happy to start working on the "marketing" end of things. Are with thinking mid January for this? Do we try to make arrangements with some facility for lodging one night or even two? I know a lot of the Phoenix guys will be down with this. I say we stay out of the finance side of things in the sense of we make arrangements with facilities but it is up to the rider to make their own arrangements. In other words, I don't want to get into collecting money and so forth. If you guys want to charge something to cover planning and transportation etc., we can keep it minimal.

I have riden from Silverbell Mine to Three Points. Years ago before I had mastered the art of GPS tracks.I spent 4 trips trying to find the way. I do believe that we had wondered on the Res - but there were no signs indicating such. We stopped and asked a couple of the locals and they clued us in on the right way to go.

Kevin, I have to take my wife to the airport in the morning. Let's say 9AM at the gas station. My cell is 317-441-3624.

MntDawg, when are you coming south? We could really use some help getting from the Cienega to Pomerene on as much big bike friendly dirt as possible.
