For Gardner Canyon, Sawmill Gulch, etc. They are proposing to decommission a fair amount or road.

Wow, that's really not good at all.

Sure glad you got that invite, now, hopefully, some of us can go to the meeting and give our 2˘.

I'm so confused. I heard Andy is having a bbq down in Arivaca tomorrow and a ride during the day and then heard about phx meets Tucson riding redington. Are these the same event? I want to ride tomorrow or at least hang out, can someone fill me in on the options?

No, here is the TUS/PHX ride tomorrow in Redington. I'll be taking the easy route if you'd like to come along. But, you'll have to bring your own bailing wire and sticks because Tellydoug won't be here this year.

Travel Management Work

Jsonder,

I will plan to attend.

I need to print maps and tables at the office next week to devise an organized approach to address planned closures.

My initial concerns are closures of loops and significant sections that connect other trails/roads. I think if we could prevent those closures, we could succeed in a net gain of trail/road miles for this TMP.

I would suggest:

Involving AMA and Blue Ribbon Coalition... I am a member of neither. Tey should be able to provide input on how to best attack the issue.

Looking at the proposed closures by bike and compare them with the reasons in the tables for closures. Collecting video and photos if applicable.

Request specifics for their closure reasons (i.e. "Close for resource protection" what resources, how are they threatened by motorized travel, etc.)

We need to learn more about the ECR. I'm not sure whether they're an ally or not.

The good thing is, they are planning to add a fair amount of new stuff. Unfortunately, their proposal still ends up with a net loss.

State of the Union

...as it relates to the Tucson AdvRiders

It's been kind of quite around here and the Red Garter gathering has almost fizzled out. But it's a new year and two of our old regulars have posted up within a day of each other so maybe things are looking up. Great to see a post from Ravenranger and Becktastic.

Raven, I was just asking Jeff about you at last weeks Vintage Bike night. Hope to see you at the RG if you can make it out. I plan to start going regularly again starting next week.

My own sad tale of not riding is hopefully soon coming to an end. I had surgery this past Tuesday to remove scar tissue and a bunch of hardware from my left elbow. November saw the addition of a screw to my right wrist. Once I get healed up, I should be back in the saddle. Although right now it feels like I'm at ground zero again.

Hope to see a good turn out this Thursday...what else ya gonna do...watch TV?

Thanks for the warm welcome back Russ. :)

Last semester got me down and I rarely made it out to ride (even my summer bike trip was mostly slab). I've missed riding dirt and all you guys and the Garter.

Alright, enough of being sappy. This semester is my last and I have done everything in my power to make it as non stressful as possible. I have two online classes and two independent study classes, so no excuses not to ride!

OK, here are a couple pics from Andy Spear's place/ride today.

Staged picture by a pretty much non-dirt rider.

Ian and Andy in shades of red; Richard is in the mirror.

I managed to find a nail and became a casualty with a flat rear tire ~1 mile from Andy's.

The tire is patched but the new tube got pinched and the bike still had to be trucked into Green Valley. I owe Richard Goacher big time, as there was a worried wife involved. Not quite what I had in mind for a 70th birthday. But, it's all good!
