Where to DS & offroad in SE Arizona

Thought I would ask you Tucson peeps for some recommendations on Dualsport areas in the Tucson area.
SE Arizona/SW New Mexico. I'm coming out in mid March to meet my son for some riding. Looking for a good place to basecamp (hopefully a cabin type setup) for about 5 days. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I hope everything turns out well - a u-turn in front of a MC is one of the worst accidents. (Been there done that). Hope the driver had good insurance -empty out his/her policy!

I am sorry to hear about your accident and hope you heal up fast. I am glad it wasn't worse.
Take care

Wow Becky - that totally sucks. Glad it wasn't worse but even a "not too bad" crash sucks.

Good energy for fast healing!

Becky,

Really sorry to hear about your crash.

I just had a bunch of metal taken out of my elbow so I can also recommend a doctor. I talked to 3 Orthopedic surgeons before settling on him. He is with the University.

What ever you do, DO NOT settle quickly with the insurance company. Also find out if the driver was cited for anything. and if not insist that they do.

Sunday January 22nd Ride

Canceled due to bike issuesno ride tomorrow For most, Big Bike friendly. Meet at the Shell Station 1 mile West of Kinney Road on Ajo. Let's say 9:00 AM with plans to leave at 9:30 AM. This is the so called "Death in the Desert" ride to Arivaca. Skip has done it on a 1200 GS to give you some indication. Goodtimes routinely does this on his 800 GS. Plan on the ride being 5-6 hours. It is more challenging on a big bike as there are washes and some small climbs. We will grab a bite to eat and if you need, gas in Arivaca then decide to slab back or come back in the desert.

That's my doc. Tell him I said Hi!! He's done two operations on me since November.

There is not a lot of advice to give. You just want to make sure that they have trauma experience and are not just joint replacement specialists. Of the three that I talked too, he was the only who knew anything about the technique used to repair my shoulder. The first guy said "wow, I've never seen that before". The second had heard of it. De Silva knew about it and where it was developed.

Good luck

Cool, I'm glad you had a good experience. I was checking doctor reviews on vitals.com and he isn't highly rated. A friend had a leg fixed by Dr Tucker and really liked him and he has rave reviews, so I'll call Monday and see if he can get me in, otherwise I'll just stick with De Silva.

Good to keep checking around. Just remember that a good "Leg" dr. is not necessarily a good Hand/Wrist dr. It's very a specialized field. Especially any thing to do with the hand and wrist. The Dr that did my shoulder and elbow in Vermont pointed to the break in my scaphoid bone in my wrist and said "that it's a whole different Fellowship" for the wrist and hand and that his specialty stopped there..

Nice photos - looks like a great ride!

Meanwhile, here's a PDF of this year's Desert Daze poster. It would be great if folks could download and print out a few copies to post up around town. Thanks!
