I think the road was closed at like MP14. Did you ride the control back down or pavement? I could see the sheriff being surprised by you riding by and wondering how someone could possibly take responsibility for themselves.

Indeed it does!

For very good riders only.

At least that is my opinion - and I don't count myself as a very good rider.

We rode the control Rd back down, it was actually easier riding downhill in the snow then up.

Would love to do a big bike ride but am in Arkansas for work. I'm up for riding next weekend though.

Where, and when, are you thinking of riding? I am in the Vail area and in the midst of moving into a new (for me) home. Could break free for a local ride though. My GS and Husky Terra are knobless up front so I would probably opt for the Husky 630.

Rug Rd was one of my first rides ever and I made it. No boots, elbow protectors, chest protector. Dumb luck really. What you don't know...

Rode it from the Klondyke side, and once your in, there really isn't turning back cause fuel is an issue at that point. unless you have an Exxon truck tank.

I said at that time, "one and done", but I would like to try it again now that I have a couple of few years of riding in.

The toughest part is the climb from the creek at the bottom of Rug Hill to the saddle...West to East. You escaped that by coming from the East. However, the climb up the backside of the saddle is no picnic either. I want to do it right after the new year when it is cooler.
