Ride in NSW Australia
Had some time off over christmass and packed my bags (on the bike) and headed west.
I live in Newcastle which is 200ks north of sydney. My ride headed west from Newcastle out towards the coalmining towns of Singleton, Jerrys Plains and then to Denman. Some realy nice road riding from the coast out thru the vineyards of the huntervalley. Then you enter all the horse studs of the upperhunter some realy nice country side On the otherside of Denman is a road called Bylong valley way---If this road was tared all the way to Mudgee it would be considerd some of the best road riding in the whole of NSW. My last ride on this road was 50% tar 50% gravel road,So the 990 was in for a treat As all roads it is being upgraded and now only small sections are still gravel still fun riding. Out thru the town of Bylong,Wollar and Budgee Budgee and into the town of Mudgee.By this stage it was Lunchtime and 37 degrees time for some lunch and cool drink. My aim was to get to an old goldmining town of Hill End, Then down the Bridle Track for my first nigh camping More to come when I can upload photos again |

Sounds great, looking forward to updates. Not too far from my neck of the woods and I'm always looking for ideas.

Mudgee is a pretty nice town--not a huge amount going on there . only stoped for a bite and a drink.
I headed west from Mudgee towards Gulgong about 5ks out you turn south and head towards Hargraves and Hill end. Once again a real nice road mixture of tar and well maintained gravel. You could cruise along at a good pace. Coming into Hill end is like a step back in time. The road is lined with some amazing old trees that form a canopy over the top of you as you ride in. No amazing castles out here just old tin sheds (100 year old tin sheds) At Hill end i pulled up for another drink and chat to some of the locals At the general store the chick behind the counter couldnt be more helpful when asked of the Bridle Track conditions "ya not going to take that thing down there" refering to my 990s. I started to get nervice when she explained to me that she and her husbane whent down there yesterday and blue 2 tyres out on the 4wd. The road was realy rocky and dry. At this stage I wasnt sure what to do so i headed up to the local National Parks and Wildlife services. Got the same message there. Well the only way to find out the conditions was to go and have a look myself. Pulled up at the start of the track and it looked ok. Two 4wd were about to go in- so i hit them up as to what the track was like, They said have a go. |
