New calsci wind shield

I just wanted to let everyone know about this new wind screen. My bike was used to make the prototype and it was finished just the other day. If you look at the web sight the one in the pictures is tailored to my 5'11", 30" inseam(long torso). It puts the wind smoothly over the top of my helmet and just on the outside of my shoulders. I've never been one to chase the perfect wind shield but this one is great for me. I can have my visor up and no earplugs at highway speeds. The mounting is very simple with just 4 screws 2 spacers, so don't expect any fancy washers or plastic covers. I might actually try painting mine eventually to blend with the plastic. One thing to keep in mind though is my other bike is a v-strom so the wind shield thing is subjective! If you are interested in this shield, I would contact Mark at calsci. He will probably get measurements from you to make it just the right height. Good guy and good product.

Oh yea, I've been lurking here for a couple of years now and it was these blasted wind shield threads that got me to post for the first time, so please forgive any computer ignorance (all else is fair game though).

Thumb New Calsci shield

Thanks for the heads-up & research. Do you know whether the screen you have is what Calsci is calling the Large +4", or the X-Large +5 1/2" (or something else)?

The Calsci may be the only current factory choice other than the CeeBaileys. I've contacted the folks at Rifle concerning their new fairing/windshield combination, but it's not in production now and may not be for a while. Good to see Calsci in the mix.

Loosing the lower part and the lower fixing bolts looks to me scary. The cantilever forces get larger widening the wind shield on the top and lengthening it as well. I wouldn't feel safe with the lower bolt non operational. That is IMHO.
Cheers.

According to Casci's site, an important difference is that the Calsci shield lacks the "flip" at the top. In their experience air has a spring-like quality, so that the flip typically causes the air to oscillate vertically, actually increasing turbulence around the rider's head. I just ordered a Calsci, so we'll see how theory meets practice.
