+1 on the F650GS. In particular the new 2009 F650GS. Much more versatile and just as comfortable to cruise on.

And as far as fuel goes: BMW recommends 91 RON (Research Octane Number). RON is the octane measurement in Europe. In the States we use PON (Pump Octane Number), which is typically 4-5 points lower than RON. So, 91 RON = 86-87 PON here in the States. So yes, you can run US 87 PON in your Beemer.
