Green Lane Advice Needed

Hi, I'm currently looking to get into a bit of Green Lane riding around Beds / Herts area and need a little advice on bikes, been offered the following
Suzuki DR350 SEV 1997 (5800 miles)
Suzuki DR650 RSE 1991 (27000 miles)

Both being offered for the same money :-)

My question is, which one would suit me better ?

I'm 6 feet tall and weigh in around 17 stone.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on what you plan on using it for. The lighter bike will be better for more offroad work but will be breathless on the main roads, the 650 will be better on the road but will be heavier and more difficult on the lanes. Of course, in the real world, the distinction is not that huge. Ride them both and see which one you like. I've taken 1200s offroad and 250s on the road. They will both still work.
I'd probably lean towards the 350, being basically your size and wanting a bike for exploring lanes.

Thanks for your advice, it will be almost all for Green Lane use as I'm fortunate enough to own a 1200GSA for everything else :-)

I had (still have) a BMW 650. It was light and agile and far better offroad than my 1200 or 800gs. I thought it was an ideal all-rounder. I got a Honda XR400 and it just blows it away in the dirt. I now use it for everything, weekend trips, commuting, exploring. My domestic situation might be a little different though... I reckon the 350 but try them both and see which you feel more comfortable with.

350 it!

Since you have a big pig already, go with the 350...you'll have a hell of a lot of fun with that bike...you will be able to push it on the green, flick it, jump it, pick it up and twirl it!

for most greenlanes in britain the 350 will be ample i live on salisbury plain on the army tracks you could use the 650 on the small lanes it would be to much bike plus the back roads you'll be using to get to the green lanes the 350 will be fine
