Finished and ready to play...
My 1996 XR250R with 2006 CRF250 froks shortened travel by 30mm and re-valved for enduro, rear shock fitted with 12kg spring for my fat self..
CRF AXP sump guard modified to fit. 2009 CRF steering damper. XR400 oil cooler. 2008 RMZ tailpipe. Zeta handguards & levers. Edelbrock Quick Silver 2 pumper carb. Renthal top clamp & Renthal Enduro fat bars. SM Pro rims & Talon Hubs. [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]Update.... Enduro Engineering handlebar risers and I finally got what I have been after since getting the bike... A red fuel tank, it's from a 99 XR400 but didn't take too much to get it fitting well, I also prefer the standard XR rear mudguard/fender loving how it looks now. I managed to get the suspension dialled in spot on at the weekend and had a fantastic ride with no faults. I just need to get fit now.... ![]()

Probably not even close but a nice XR anyway. I'm a XR fan but for competition (enduro) riding I wonder how dated the XR feels compared to a well set up CRF or any modern 250 4 storke? Rider preference comes into the equation but by the time you get an XR to be able compete with newer bikes there proably would not be much of the original XR left.
That said, I have a H/S this weekend. If a XR passes my 55-year-old body & my KTM 300XC-W I'll eat my words.

I probably will never worry about it been really competitive against modern 4 bangers but to be honest I just love engineering and modifying stuff, I tend to get carried away with projects but it's half the fun I reckon.. The Edelbrock carb was a bit of a challenge to get right but it's transformed the bike, also getting the suspension set up properly has made the bike ride fantastic.
I reckon I could give some modern 4 bangers a good run for their money...Plus this wont break the bank if it goes pop unlike these new grenades.. |

Compared to a stone axe reliable XR I guess you could call the new bikes grenades. Heck those things break the bank even with a normal rebuild. My buddy's CRF is quickly sucking in the OEM valves, kind of a slow fuse time bomb. $400+ in parts + labor.

Anyone have a spare kick start shaft sitting around for a '96 + XR250r? I am in need of one. Also, is this part interchangeable with any other models/years? I'd like to expand my search options if possible.
Many thanks! |

Just looked it up, only kickstart shafts that will fit are from '96-'04...so if anyone has one, or has a lead on one, please let me know!

This area is slightly
north of areas having the famous big cats. To ride that area, it's advisable to ride in a group. This area is ok at daytime but hyenas are common at night. If you break down in a remote place, your safest bet would be to look for a Maasai for help/shelter. But such remote places are changing fast due to man's need to be civilized.
