So having been away from XR's so long - I have a few questions

a) What are the best handguards and handlebars?

b) Any 'must do' mods?

c) I plan on changing the Oil&Filter every 1000 miles with Semi-Synth 10/40 - is this about right or would you do it sooner?

Any tips are gratefully received

Answers:
a) Highway Dirt Bikes, this is the ultimate hanguard setup, and completely customizable.
b) check that all bearings are good and bushings greased, check valve clearance, make sure your air filter is clean and go ride!
c) your plan looks good, just make sure to check oil level before each ride to make sure you aren't running the bike with low oil.

Thanks

I will check out HDB stuff

The exhaust valves were way too loose, when i did some wrenching earlier tonight, all adjusted and in spec now, she runs like a sewing machine - checked everything else before I bought it and felt great, so i'll just start at the front and work backwards

The main issue was the dragging brakes front & rear, the PO had fitted new pads but not serviced the calipers So I purchased some new Honda OEM pads and new seal kits, stripped and cleaned out - plus new fluid (the old looked like it was done at the factory 13 years ago) and took 2 flushes to run clean

I'll keep an eye on the oil, always used to and found they used no oil and hope this new to me XR250R is the same, but with only 4300 miles the motor feels sweet

Not Renthal but I love my Pro-Taper SE bars with the Henry/Reed bend.

I went out on its maiden ride yesterday and it performed faultlessly, did 100 miles door to door - road and trails and it went great, untill the snow started to fall and it was too cold to ride, luckily no snow really settled

A lovely trail bike

Here's some pics

looks nice Johnny... did you do Gordon's mods yet?

here's a thread on my xrl. about the same process as a 250. there's lots of info on thumpertalk. cheapest way to do it is machine down the stock triple and press it into the USD triple. thanks btw
