Just picked up this little number:

I plan to add a big tank, maybe the Acerbis 5.8. I hate worrying about fuel range. Also plan to dual sport it. I like the way this guy did his:

Practically worthless , I can take it off your hands and save you from the aggravation.

Bleah

Ripped the top end off my '95 today. Found a hole burnt in the piston and some scoring on the rear cylinder wall. Sooooo...

New top end. Wondering how big I can go without having to do major intake/exhaust work. I'm running stock carb and exhaust presently.

Here's what I found.

Scuffing/slight scoring on the cylinder wall.

And so it'll sit till I get all my parts together. Lessee, tires on the wifes car or parts for the bike. Hmmmmmm

Josh,

I'd do better than Stanimal and you could give me some $$ and I'll learn to ride on it. Is it tagged in NC?

Got some pics?

Tom

Wow. Twins! lol

Cam, rockers, etc all are ok. There was plenty of oil in the top when I pulled the rocker cover off. I couldn't find an intake leak to cause a lean running condition. Al Bakers XR's Only has a top end kit for a reasonable price. I'll have a moto savvy machine shop locally bore and hone the cylinder for me. I think I'm gonna go with the 277cc kit in it.

my cylinder was so lightly scored I honed it myself and went with a 1/2 mm larger piston (73.5 vs stock 73)

Sounds like a great deal

Tagged in Oregon.

Old pic with the 250 forks

XR400R forks and seat

Also has an Excel black wheel on the front. XRs only chain guide, and some other things I'm probably forgetting.

43mm vs 41mm fork tubes, adjustable compression and rebound vs compression only, better performance...

Wow, that's crazy, what did the plug look like? Any other evidence of an overly lean condition?

Can anybody give me an idea what would be a fair price to pay for this bike. It's a 1985 XR250R , it's kind of a barn find. The bike does not run because it sat for the last three years. It did run when they parked it. It belongs to a farmer who just used it to ride around on his farm. Looks like its in decent shape, not abused. He told me to make an offer?? I was thinking $300 to $500. What do you guys think?

I'd say it's probably worth $1600 to $1900. Looks like a well sorted bike but 250's have a limited market. People think they need more and will go for a DRZ in the same price range...

And tagging in NC shouldn't be a problem as long as the OR title does not say "off road only".
