It is full of oil, right? How many miles? Valves been adjusted?
It has a auto compression cable, and yes :-) I check my oil level religiously. Bike's quite old, just to give you an idea, the oddometer stopped working at about 78k km . Valves were adjusted recently but I'll take it to the mech and check them out. Thanks

I think I have one that is complete that came off an 87. It has an aftermarket spring on it and doesn't have any leakage. I can't make any promises as to what kind of shape it's in internally however. I can double check later but if you want it I'll send it to you for 40$

Could very well be a worn out cam chain.

Stanless steel is non-magnetic I believe. I know the magnets don't stick to my stainless fridge. My wife wondered why I wanted stainless, I said you'll see...

She still managed to hang a dry erase board....

One problem, when I got it home the front indicators glow all the time when the key is on or the bike is running. When the indicator is turned on it blinks like normal but the other front indicator just glows and vice versa.

The rear ones work ok. I didn't notice this when I looked at and rode the bike before purchase, possibly because is was a bright sunny day, as opposed to my dingy garage today. Hate it when that happens

I thought the obvious thing might be some sort of short or tracking in the switch block between the head light switch and the indicator switch so pulled the block apart but nothing to be seen and with the block apart I still get the 'glow'.

Anybody come across this before? Just thought I'd ask before starting to trace and isolate the wiring incase someone has had the same before knows exactly where to start looking....

Looking forward to getting out for a ....
have the exact same year and model.
My indicators do the same thing, leave them alone they're running lights and are ment to stay on

I found this forum while looking for info on an Edelbrock QwikSilver 2 carb that I intend to fit when it arrives from the United States. I'm loving the amazing places some people on here get to ride around. Yes I'm very jealous it's shite here in the United Kingdom in comparison..
Well folks the Edelbrock carb was modified to fit today and the bike started after three kicks, a little adjustment to the accelerator pump and idle speed and it seems spot on! The pita Honda kill switch bogging issue is now history and I have a very snappy throttle and a marked increase in power right across the rev range, and very smooth power delivery..

The Carb is a 32mm version and was for a Hardly Worthitson not a proper XR kit, but an hour in the lathe and it fits pretty dam good using an XR400 airbox boot. I will get some photos up when I get some time to take some in daylight, next mod is the 2006 CRF250 front forks..

And now with the forks fitted!!!
