And, actually, your comments speak to much of my point: if the guy backed it down and rode within his limits, he'd be better able to clean up his lines instead of somewhat "blasting all over the road". So, maybe somebody watches the thing, picks up on some of the areas where the guy could do better, and learns a little something to apply to their own riding--myself included. I honestly don't see a/your problem.

its funny that, i did professional ARC rally driving for a few years, mostly self taught, with coaching, books, videos, etc through that time.
a few years ago i did a few professional training for high speed tar road courses, although i was dam fast, they told me to slow down, and my lines improved dramatically. once my lines improved, my times improved. Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast, times dont lie

This thread made me do it
I have been lurking here for months reading ride reports and the WR250 R mega thread after trading my 2005 Sprint ST for a 2009 WR250R in OCT of last year. Well during a slow day at work I found this thread and my head starting turning. I had a 1992 black VFR750 in 1995 and miss it dearly. Of course I tried to make up for it with the Triumph, but not even close. So after a few weeks of trying to figure out how to make this work, I came home with this

20,000 and in good shape, rides like a dream. Very dirty though, looks like several years of chain sling all over the wheels and swingarm. It will be clean soon!

Noticed the clouds yesterday playing a brief game with the sun's rays. Hauled the bike to a stop and grabbed the Droid. The smoke from a massive wildfire 80 miles to the north created a dreamy kind of backdrop. Softened the VFR to fit the scene. Bought it used from the original owner 3+ years ago. An outstanding bike.

My Ride - pretty much stock 08. Nelson Rigg tank bag, OEM Hard Bags, Throttlemeister.
![]() GPS is a refurbished Garmin 2720 that I picked up for under $100 (this model is several years old now) - it's waterproof and does the job fine - the only thing it doesn't have is bluetooth. ![]() Took the bike from Vancouver down to Cabo Mexico a couple of years ago - an epic ride it was

So in outfitting a 5th gen for 2-up touring, I have some concerns that I hope someone can help address. Last time I rode with side bags, top case, and a passenger, some lady in a Toyota Avalon decided not to let me pass and hit the gas, keeping me from merging into the lane. Figuring hey, I'm on a VFR here, I gunned it a bit, only to have the front end come up roaring before I could even pass her. Passenger was not amused, but giddy about having the topcase back there.
So in thinking about this, it got me worried. Looking at the bike from the side, there does seem to be a hell of a lot of weight behind the rear wheel (three cases, maybe an added drybag or two, while the passenger is right over the axle) Would this translate into a front wheel traction problem out in the twisties? The handling does feel a tad awkward when leaning into freeway clover on/off ramps as is, and the baggage isn't even fully loaded. Now, I'm obviously not gonna be getting a knee down or anything with the SO on the back and all our camping gear, but should I be worried about losing the front when rolling on in a curve? Would losing the top case (which sticks out back the most) and just adding a drybag to the rack help at all? Have a weekend camping trip coming up in a couple days and wondering if I should just take the beat-up V-Strom instead. And while on the subject of passengers, is there any cheaper way to lower the rear foot pegs than the the $160+ MFW kit? Mazaev screwed with this post 06-13-2012 at 10:23 AM |
