Shameless plug for a mint staintune exhaust and other stock parts. I loved riding the VFR, but my back hated me

93 Resto
So, in January I found a '93 VFR750 (only year of the all white VFR besides 2006) rotting away in someones yard. I asked what thier plans for it were and the guy said, "I'll bring it to your house for $250". I said "Alright". It had paperwork but had been layed down. Bodywork was rough. I'm talking layers of mold growing on it!!!! I figured, worst case I'll part it and make at least $300 on the rear wheel alone. Well, I threw some starter fluid in the carbs to see if she'd fire and she did so I dove in head first. After 7 months and a lot of patience I have a decent looking runner. Lots of work, especially in paint, and bodywork. I learned a lot and now I have a good looking rider!
Here's what she looked like when I brought her home. ![]() By smackdoogle at 2012-07-05 and ![]() By smackdoogle at 2012-07-05 in progress ![]() By smackdoogle at 2012-08-12 The final product ![]() By smackdoogle at 2012-08-12 ![]() By smackdoogle at 2012-08-12 ![]() By smackdoogle at 2012-08-12 Not perfect but I can say I did it all myself and I'm happy with my effort. It was a cheap restoration. With the cost of the bike I only spent about $1500. My paint and bodywork skills show it though. Oh well, she looks good next to my '86 VFR750. |

6th Gen Love
For the last few years riding has been something grabbed a couple hours at a time. The daily pileup of house-kids-work-wife-life has been at an extended crescendo of my own making. Friday I did what I should do a lot more often - canned the schedule and took the whole day to clear my head on the bike.
I've been lucky to have ridden a fair number and variety of street bikes, but I have yet to find one that overall beats the VFR. When you want to be fast, it's as fast as self preservation and a wish to avoid magistrates court will honestly let you go, and when you've had your fill and it's time to point it back home it's accommodating enough to bring you home happily. Really, truly an under-appreciated do-it-all bike. -AWolff

Well said and good for you. Mine's been parked as well for the last month or so due to the same ever growing/never ending list of "to-do's". The next nice day we have, I'll be ignoring calls for 8-10 hours and hitting the road. Thanks for the inspiration.

Anyone in ohio/northeast ohio know of a dealer or possibly there is an individual with a 5th gen and let me take one for a spin down street? I ride a vstrom 650 now but have been pining over a VFR for the longest time. However, I am a bit spoiled by the vstrom ergonomics.

Ridge running on the weekend and sport touring too. I really appreciate the 200 plus mile range and you can make the "ton" pass and high speed transit when needed. It can do it all and carve up the touring bikes when you get to the remote twisties. Out west it hits the spot! It is a keeper. ![]() Sierra Buttes off RT 49. |
