You have an extra battery?
Complicated dashboard but very well arranged.

I have an opportunity to buy an unmolested 2001 from a friend. It's got about 10,000 miles on it. The guy hasn't ridden it much over the past couple of years. It's got sta-bil in the fuel tank. Fluids need to be changed as well. Being an almost 12 year old bike, should I look into replacing the rear shock and the fork springs or are they still ok?

I'd ride it and find out that way. You may want to start with new brake/clutch fluid before you do the suspension. my free advise.

My friend also rides one from the same generation. He did Ohlins front and rear two seasons ago and the difference is amazing. However, I'd also ride it as is and see what you think. No reason to jump to conclusions. I completely agree on new clutch/brake fluid and I'd do coolant as well.

Being 12 years old has no impact on whether you should change fork springs. The bike only has 10K miles. You should change the fork oil but the springs and the shock should still be OK.
