Lost neutral light
The beast goes into neutral, but the light just flickers a little then goes out
I replaced the (gear position) switch behind the kick stand today, but That didn't help... The bike runs it just won't run with the kickstand down... Lastly when I give it some throttle the light tries to light up? |

I would re-check the gear p. switch!! ... ".. it just won't run with the kickstand down... " .. does any? you have to remove the Kick.. switch for that.

Solution
Hey all,
I experienced the same symptoms for the last ~1000 miles, and last night I finally got around to diagnosing and fixing it. Here's my take on the issue. On the shifter side of the actual shift drum, there is an oil pressure driven pin that pushes outwards (towards your left heel) and presses against the black 3 pin pickup switch. This pin rotates with the shift drum and contacts and grounds the switch for 2nd gear and 3rd gears well as neutral. If you clean up the area and pull the pickup off, you'll quickly see exactly how this works. There was a bit of cruddy oil in the crevasse, so I cleaned it up real good, and I also pressed the pin in and out several hundred times with a small screwdriver while testing continuity. I felt like this was a sort of redneck "bleeding", because I felt many bubbles come out of the pin drive side, and after putting it all back together, I have a perfectly functioning neutral switch. I should also note I kicked my bike over onto the grass for this (installing the black dog sidestand plate too), so that might have helped.

I've cleaned the contacts on mine to no avail. The pins in the shift drum are spring loaded according to the parts diagram. Both the pins and the switch are spotless inside, but still no green light except as I shift to second it flashes. Maybe those springs weaken over time.

The pin is both spring and oil pressure driven. Mine has started acting up again when at 7 bars in traffic, so I'm leaning towards loss of oil pressure. I'll try to replace my 15w40 rotella with the usual 15w50 mobil1 and see if that cures it. Are you using a 50w-hot oil? Do you get an accurate light engagement when coming off the offramp from highspeed//highway?
