On the trail again.

My berg broke a couple months ago. At that time, I wasn't certion that I would be able to ride it ever again. Infact it was not clear that I could ride it until last night when I fired it up.

So today I was suppose to take a different bike out riding. But I just could not put off riding my buddy for another week.

First I promised myself that I would only ride it a short distance before I checked the valves and changed the oil. But once on the bike I couldn't stop. So I rode a single track loop.

Here we are all loaded up and trail bound.

Back on the trail. I still have a lot of work to do to make it right. But it's running and that is a big step forward.

One thing that I really about riding in New Mexico. The skiing guys are getting what they want. And at 9 am its 40 in the valley.

One thing that I find bothersome is the fact that our single track is being converted first to ATV trails. Then the trucks try to run the ATV trails.
The arroyo leading up to a hill. How can anyone get there trucks through there?

Two months ago when I last rode this area this was all single track.

Looking up the hill it only gets worse.

I did the loop. And the todo list on the berg started to grow again. Oh well that's it the way it goes.

Right now sand riding in New Mexico is great.

Is that a new tank on your bike? Cool.

It was warm to start, but did the rain get you today...it got to my house at about 2:30

It's my old tank.

I must have missed, (or don't remember) what happened to the berg?? And what needs to be done? (fellow berg owners want to know)

Also, looks like you'll need more new single track to replace the ones the ATVs are consuming.

My timing chain broke.
I was totally unaware of the fact that I need to change timing chains every 100 to 150 hrs.

I didn't and the last couple of times I took the bike out it ran very poorly. I was thinking that I need to do a valve adjustment. But it was because of the timing chain had started to come apart.

When it broke I had no idea if had bent a valve or two. So I sent the head off to get checked out. The head shop suggested that I replace the intake valves. So I did. When I got the bike back there wasn't all that much ware on the intakes. I also replaced a lot of bearings in the cam area.

Taking the side cover off of these bikes was a bit more involved than I thought. It was hard to reinstall. I still haven't got it right. So I am waiting for new gaskets. When they come I will try again to get the kick starter lever indexed correctly. Right now it works fine but it doesn’t recoil.

When I pulled the bike apart. The shop that I was working with thought that I had an issue when there was between 1/32nd and 1/16th of an inch of side to side play. They thought that I would have to split the case.

So it all was a big hassle. But now I am finally getting it resolved.

I don't know why but the berg is my favorite bike of all time. It's very large for single track. I could make it better if I took off the big gas tank. The bike really comes to its own riding backcountry like the stuff in Colorado. Having said that it is also the biggest pain in the A#$ that I have ever owned. Maybe it will get better once I get everything dialed in.

Unfortunately, we are going the opposite direction with less miles of singletrack every year.

Searching For More Single

New Mexico's, You are absolutely correct. If it’s not the fed’s, it’s the atv’s or the jeepers. We still have some great trail here in Western Colorado and Eastern Utah. Lots of good trails along with a good group of riders makes for a great time. We are within a month of riding, waiting on the north sides to melt. If any of you are going to be in the area, let us know, bring a bike and will show you some trail. Always seeking more single track,, be careful out there….

Thanks for the offer. I've been wanting to ride more Western Colorado for years now. I just never seem to make it out. It would be way cool to have a FMF type ride over on the west side.

Why the need to paint with such broad strokes with your paintbrush of blame? You sound just like a eco-nazi justifying to shut down more trails by blaming just a few bad apples in the orchard.

Together we stand, divided we fall.
