Here's some pics from our ride. We had a good time. I also updated the blog, see link in sig.

The embed doesn't seem to be working... Here's a pic and a link to the album instead.

Did you guys ride the north side of Quirk ridge? I've come up it from the south, but never continued on down the north face. Riding alone, sometimes the unknown is best left unknown. I need to do some riding with others that know the area better than me.

That being said, I'll be heading out for a ride in the morning, anyone care to join me?

If quark ridge is the one where you access from the south via rocky quad trail, then yes. As you continue northwards, it's really quite easy after the initial down. If you can ride that first descent in the woods, then it's all milk from there.

Just after the second lower ridge there's a split just in the woods, if you go right it's easier and faster, if you go straight, it's more technical, but still easier than that first descent. I'll see if I have a video of it on Vimeo to explain.

I believe that is immediately after the quad road. If you can make it past the first minute (on film, he's fast) you can ride all the way down the ridge line.

This is going south(ish) on the furthest north portion, if you stay left on the way up, it's not that bad.

Nice vids Joe. Where does that take you if you keep going north? Does it come out onto the trail that goes to Elbow falls, or does it turn east and hook up where the road has that big jog in it? Don't know if that makes sense.....Are these rides with that club you mentioned? Looks like something I'd be interested in joining up with.

I don't understand what you're talking about in relation to direction... They lead down to the big puddle with the culvert through it, just to the south side of the road... I don't know if that means anything to you. Maybe this pic will give you a clue?

Yeah, the RMDRA has a guided rides program, pay $40 at the beginning of the year and go to as many as you'd like, nearly every Wednesday night from May till September. They're a good bunch of guys and land advocates.

They tortured me pretty hard at the beginning for having such a big heavy bike, most of them are running WR250's and various orange beasts, they think my bike is a tank, but I keep up to them fairly well. If you're riding something bigger, you may want to keep to the dual sport guys. That being said dirtduke strolled up on a KTM690 and kept me pushing hard to stay ahead of him.

Thanks for the info, I know exactly where you are by that pic., the trail head is behind you back up to your left in the pic.. I'm on a 300exc for this stuff, so no probs there. I like the idea of guided rides, looked at the web site, looks like only one ride left this year, I wonder if I get a membership now, if it will be good for next year as well? Have to figure out who to ask over there I guess.

+1 - thanks to their efforts there is now more single track to ride up by Fallen Timber. Be sure to try and get out for at least one of their trail work days... too few people doing most of the work for the riding community.

So, went out for a ride this morning, went up to Quirk ridge from the south via the quad trail, then took the plunge down the north side. And plunge it is!!! I wouldn't exactly call the rest of the trail a milk run for me, but doable. Had a good time riding something new to me and pushing my boundaries a bit. Dont think I'm ready to try going up that trail though, need to quit smoking and get in better shape!!!!

Thanks again for all the info Joe, will try to make the next(last) Wednesday night ride, week nights are tough for me though, but I try to make it.

I know someone who took their 990 down the north side earlier this season... with no rear brakes. I think you can guess who it was :)

"No Rear Brakes". Well, that could only be one person's 990. ;-)

It doesn't hurt that that individual makes a 990 look like a 450 with him on it....

If the weather holds, I'm going to take the 950 for a ride tomorrow, going to do Powderface, then down the 40, and back home. Will stop in Bragg Creak at 9am if anyone want to join me.

I took my F650 halfway down the first rooty desent last year (in the spring with bits of snow) then we changed our minds. It's a good thing I ride with guys with strong backs. I needed them to get it back up
