Mountain Aire lodge has fuel although their website says "Note:*Due to recent events, the self-serve station has limited Gas and Diesel for sale." so you might want to call them directly. My odometer shows 302km measured from the shell in Cochrane to the top of the mountain and back to Calgary (tuscany).

Have a good ride tomorrow. Watch for ruts (and the divot my head made) in the dirt just below the rocky top bit.

Pinesol - that fairing looks great. Can't wait to see the finished bike.

thank you....


finished 99% of everything (F800GS low fender and 690 fairing), spent over 3hrs trying to bleed the front caliper/ ABS and still have no brakes, the rear were pretty straight forward.

guess im not going out for a drive on sunday...

^^^ Bike is looking sweet Pinesol, cant wait to see the finished product.

As for the forrestry trunk, you can almost always get gas at Mountain Aire Lodge (their website always has that warning), then you can get gas again in Bearberry or Caroline if you need before pushing up to Limestone.

I love that ride, sorry I cant join you guys.

Where is the bleed nipple?

Sometimes manufactures put on generic parts which causes them to be on the bottom. Which means standard bleeding will never get the air out. Take off caliper and adjust accordingly if needed.

Have you tried a vacuum bleeder? Syringe for bottom up bleeding?, etc.

I've never done a bike with ABS before though... and personally hope I never =)

Exc 500, 530 and or Husaberg 570 owners- help please!

So, I've had my 950 SE up on kijiji for trade for one of these bikes because I want to go to a smaller Dualsport - I think...

Problem is I have never ridden any of these. I know I will like them better off road, but what about on road?

I love blasting around on the SE, anyone with a 500, 530 or 570 willing to swap for a little on road test?

I'm afraid I will regret selling or trading the SE...

I love my 990 adventure. It's a beast on and off pavement.

Pine Sol , the vacuum technique works best for brake bleed. Push from bottom with a syringe and catch the overflow up top. Gets all the air out no problem. No need to pump lever that way and air moves up the way it wants to.
Go to any medical supply place for some tubing in the size you need and a syringe. GOOD LUCK!!

i dropped by a horse shop and got a 60ml syringe... made a good mess in the garage, pushed 60ml up the system (glad the bike is mainly plastic, not a fancy paint job).

still no pressure,

i also tried using vacuuming without any success.

when i pull and release the front lever, i can hear a swishing sound coming from this little box (or at least i think its coming from here)

followed those two metal tubes back to the solenoid, but unable to feel any bleed screws on it

i keep checking through google, there has to be a trick that i missing or cant see

Does that bike have dual discs? Is this where they split from? Air must be trapped in there?

single disc up front.


the more research i have done, the more it looks like:
either go to the dealer and have them use their dealer thingy to cycle through the ABS solenoid, as per needed to bleed the brakes,
or
disconnect the front ABS and revert back to single hose from master to caliper....

guess i will be looking for a local cable shop for a custom hose....


as the bike is being built for travel, if having ABS complicates the system so much that i cant bleed them at home, then conventional single hose is what i will swap to, its a shame really...

Thing is brakes should never need bleeding unless being serviced. How much did the stealership quote to bleed them? I'd look for home remedies so maybe you can keep the feature AND do it in the field if required.

Or check X-challenge specific forums. There has to be an easy fix.

Why don't you call Anderwerkes and ask them. If nothing else, they could do the bleed for you and they love custom builds.

Alternately, you could buy a GS911 - it has a cycle ABS function. You probably need one for a RTW trip anyway.
