I rode the 1190, RC8R and 500exc. I was quite surprised to find the RC8R the best of the bunch, punchy motor, great handling, gobs of torque. I didn't even want to ride it but all the others were taken. The 1190 was a hit and miss, tons of buffeting from the windscreen, lots of vibes, handled well though. 500exc started to headshake badly at 60mph and was barely rideable on the street. Wish they had a dam dirt course. It's got a lot of pull but I'm still not convinced it's worth $11k.

This should make the 990 much more fun in the dirt... and also a lot easier to change a rear flat on! Hasta la vista safety bead!!!

She fits into the collective now,

I'd agree with you on that one... I rode a 500EXC last year and ended up picking up an 08 450EXC just because the 450EXC is a better bike all around. I'm not a fan of the squishy feeling of the EFI throttle response on the 500 and 690's. I know that can be remedied to an extent, but sometimes simple is better. Oh, and yeah... $11K was too much for me to swallow too, lol!

The headshake is probably due to a multitude of factors... Unbalanced front rim, loose head bearing and/or tire choice on the rear. What tires were on it?

Great Last Day

Home from the Washington, Idaho, Montana trip. Great riding, but don't try the CDT east of Eureka yet. We were stopped by snow and none of the passes over that range are open yet.

Looks like you had a great trip!

Lee, I was glad to see your leg was up to the trip and that you took the road more traveled rather than risk an unscheduled get off. I leave Friday for 12 days of roaming around Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. I will be staying on the beaten track since I will be on my own. It should still be a ton of fun. Cheers, David

Question Powder face?

So any confirmation as to whether it's open yet (post May 15); will open last weekend in May; won't open this year? I am only around for a month or so... Appreciate the intel! Thanks.

Pissed Blackfoot

So I get a phone call from Blackfoot telling me that I can only test ride one KTM on Saturday and I have to choose. WTF? They were OK with me choosing two bikes (1190 Adv and 1190 AdvR) when I booked it 6 weeks ago. Eric said that they are too much alike and I have to pick one only.

Not impressed. Once again, BF has taken a good thing and turn it to sh#t.

Not to sound like a dick but are you surprised? IMO they show absolutely ZERO interest in improving their customer service/customer relations.
I just recently went in there to buy a new adventure suit. Asked the clothing guy whether they had any of the ICON Patrol line that I could try on (they carry and stock ICON gear btw). He barely acknowledged my presence and simply shook his head. That was it. No, "oh we have some on order..." or "you maybe interested in this..." Nothing. Silence and a head shake passes for service at Blackfoot. So I went to Bow Cycle North, they had everything in stock. Tried it on. Bought it. Satisfied customer. I'm DONE giving Blackfoot my business.

I guess not. It always seems like Blackfoot marketing is really good and gets you through the door but then the face to face interaction sucks.

When I took the GS course, I was pretty enthused. I went to buy a new jacket and the counter guy was a jerk, so I went elsewhere. I also hate the way they treat me like a criminal at the parts counter with the whole sealed bag thing.

I don't know who Eric is but he was definitely trying to pre-qualify me by asking what kind of bike I have and whether I bought it from them. After they cancelled one of my rides, I wasn't about to get into a sales discussion!

Brutal man. I took the gs course as well and it was a great experience. But like you said earlier, it just seems like they are very good at taking something great (like a KTM product ride) and spoiling it somehow.

Going somewhere west this Sunday on the 990... Anyone is welcome to join. Will probably just be myself and a bloke I sold my panniers to last week. He'll be on a KLR,

To be fair, with the interest in these bikes right now riding two VERY similar bikes seems like a legit reason to allow someone else a chance in the saddle.

I didn't bother to check, but i'm pretty sure they were the stock DOT knobbies.
