Where is he? Surely he's crossed the border and should have made Monterrey or Saltillo by now.

Yes, 300 ft north and south of I-10 is not a good representation of the state. It is like saying that you went to Bakersfield and in your opinion, California sucks.

Hey! I kinda like Bakersfield. That Golden West Casino on S. Union has some good poker games in it (once you get past the toothless crack hoes outside the gate). The live music in the casino on Fri/Sat night is also pretty good. Only place I seen in America where cowboys who are descendants of Okies not only sing Merle Haggard C&W music, but also sing songs in Spanish

Day 3 in Mexico. I have to get out my map to let you know where I'm at. I'm uploading 8720986 photos and starting a massive report. I hope I remember half of the good stuff

Okay, I will read you when I get back. I leave in the morning for San Antonio and will then cross into MEX on Wednesday. Not sure of internet connections where I am headed.

Cheers,

Mike

Where Do I even start this? I speak no Spanish for starters.

3 days have gone by since the last report.

I pack up my game from the night before. I'm all gassed up and ready to roll. I turn left on a one way and what do I see?

An Adventure rider. We stop and I ask if he is going to Mexico. "Nope, just got back"

Shoot, there goes my plan to use him for information.

Frank is a pretty cool guy. He has been riding forever. At age 65 he is the young guy in the group. The oldest is 75 and still riding off road in Mexico. I ask him if he is on ADVRIDER, he doesn't know about it. Frank is the real deal. He is not some yuppie on a 10k BMW asking where to get his oil changed. I like Frank. He tells me to cross at Progresso, so that is where I cross.

I'm not the only biker there.

I meet up with some Harley farmers trying to stay warm. I do the paper work thing. (Surprisingly easy) In fact my last boarder crossing from Sault Saint Marie Canada into Michigan took longer. The car I was driving was pulled to the side and searched for contraband. We passed. Here the armed gaurds just waved me through. MEXIO!!!

Riding a Motocycle is great. right after this photo, I buzzed by on the right.

I stop in China for the night. 300 Pasos. Sounds steep, but it's getting dark. I decided to take it easy on day one.

Dinner, I learned to ask "Cuanto cuesta" before I eat.

Not sure what this means, but I don't think it was a speed limit sign.

These are everywhere. I'll try to not let that become of me.

The next morning I drove through miles of Orange groves.

I picked up a liter or fresh oj and two oranges for 10 pasos. It was a great breakfast. I gave me strength for my first water crossing.

Lunch was 25 pasos. About a $1.85. Can't complain.

The family was so nice. The husband even tried to give me a free bike wash after the meal. I pleasantly refussed and took off for the next town. I was already pushing my limits with getting there before dark.

This spot was beautiful

Good here come the mountains

If it's there you have to...

and...

Why did I buy insurance? You don't even need a plate!

I ate at this family restaurant for only 21 pacos

They were nice enough to let me use their toilet.

Good, it's not diarrhea yet. It's only a matter of time though.

Moving on....

This kind of stuff is everywhere.

Prety cool Buggy. I had to leave quick though. This guy with gold teeth named Ricki wouldn't leave me alone. He was asking too many questions and he didn't know about personal space etiquette. I wasn't about to sit down and explain it to him. Next town!

Next town is far away. As you can see it's already getting dark. Time to find a hotel before I break my numbro uno rule. No driving at night!

I find a place for 280 pasos. I need to start shopping for my sleeping area earlier in the day so I can find a cheaper spot.

Good night.

The motels on the outskirts of larger towns tend to be places of adult recreation and have the 6 hour rate and all night rate. Tell them you want "cuarto por toda la noche" or they will be banging on your door when you're trying to get some ZZZZ's. Some of these motels are really nice and clean and have private enclosed parking off the room, room service too. We were in one last spring break and a guy with a GS got the room next to us. I didn't see high heels on the menu but they were clicking around the room loud enough to hear through the walls. Must have been a heck of a good time.

>"didn't know about personal space etiquette."

Dunno what your exact situation was, but be aware that in a lot of latin america, the norm for 'personal space' is a lot less than in the US.
