Where to stay near Stome Mountain

I'm taking my wife and kids (ages 5 & 4) to Stone Mountain Friday. I'm picking up a DRZ 400 SM Saturday, and I'm going to make a little family getaway go along with it. Looking for suggestions on a place to stay the night that is safe, reasonable, and family friendly. Thanks.

Assuming you meant Stone Mtn. N.C.:
Dunno if the park is open, but they have nice campsites and great bathroom facilities - clean, modern, and with hot water .

If you're not a climber, there's still a trail to the top that's friendly enough though you might want to keep kids on a tight "leash" .

FIWI ... might want to edit thread title from stoMe to stone...

It's in Georgia. They have a new thing there called Snow Mtn too which is meant to be pretty cool.

Haven't been there in years.

I'm on the other side of town so can't help with lodging recommendations but when you are ready to dual sport North GA look me up!

Some Hotels in the area..... kinda'

I live off of Pleasanthill Road right of of 85 south bound. If it were me, I would stay at one of the many hotels off Pleasant Hill and drive the 20 minutes over to Stone Mountain. Kind of keeps you out of the Perimeter stuff, but still close enough to food and other things in the area. Of ourse it works best if you are coming from the NorthEast sdie of Atlanta. Here are a few.

Residence Inn-Gwinnett Place
1760 Pineland Rd, Duluth, GA

Hampton Inn
1725 Pineland Rd, Duluth, GA

Comfort Suites
3700 Shackleford Rd, Duluth, GA

Holiday Inn Express Atlanta-Gwinnett Place

I still have your number Flux from before. I'll be getting up your way very soon with my new ride, so I'll give you a shout when I do.

I'd stay in the park. The Evergreen will be nice for the entire family. Indoor pool and a Snow & Stay package that looks pretty ... cool.

I've stayed there, it's nice, can't remember how pricey it was though.

I've never stayed there myself, drove by it a bunch while visiting the park (my house was only five miles away) and could I mention it's very nice.

The park offers camping right on the lake also. There are quite a few attractions within as well. Just something to consider if you're doing a family thing.

Good luck.

Change of plans. My kids decided they wanted to go to the zoo instead of SM, so same question for hotels near the zoo. I've been to the zoo once and from what I remember, it's not in a great neighborhood.

Fireman, I asked around and one guy suggested http://www.downtownatlantahotels.net/as a good resource. I was going to say that a B&B in Inman Park may not be a bad alternative. Using Google Maps and just typing 'bed and breakfast near zoo atlanta' will get you a bunch of results in inman park.

Of course living here you realize how little you know about surrounding hotels. I have another friend checking with someone who lives about a block away & I'll let you know what she turns up.

Hi Fireman! I am not sure how pricey the downtown Atlanta hotels are, and I would be reluctant to stay anywhere close to the zoo with your family. You might want to consider the Holiday Inn in Decatur. It is not far from the zoo and once you are there, you can walk to all kinds of cool restaurants. Also, while you are in the area, you may want to check out the IMAX theatre @ the Fernbank Museum. I don't know what movies are showing, but they are typically good family movies. SR
