I put a 1,000 miles on the F800gs with my buddy on a 1150 adv last weekend. A couple of things of things I noticed are that the 800 has just as much oomph as his bike at normal passing situations. In a couple instances of not much distance to pass situations I actually had to back off to keep from running up on him.
On the return we caught some nasty head and side winds. His bike, with the boxes was heeled over like a sailing ship, though on a steady course, in my case the bike was barely affected, though I was battered around pretty good.
One thing was apperent, stiff winds + 75mph speeds really do a number on the F800's fuel efficiency. At one point, the instant mileage feature was indicating 30mpg. I filled twice for every one of his and the overall mileage was down to 47mpg.
It was pretty clear as to which one was superior for highway travel but the F800 will certainly do it. Proof of it, I guess is my buddy is looking for a replacement bike and after riding it, was favorably impressed.

the F8's for me

I sold my 2003 R1150GSA to buy my 2010 F800GS.
I find if travelling in a straight line on black tops the 1150 was more comfortable but throw in some bends and dirt and the F800 shit's all over it.
That was enough for me to buy the F8
For me if you wan't to travel on some dirt or enjoy the twisty stuff go out and get the F8, you won't be sorry.

It's simple. Get the F800GS if you primarily ride solo. Get the 11/12GS if you tour a lot two-up.
