that'd be Tellico Gap -- it's close to my place up there. Winding stairs is great for a good dead-engine race.

I'm planning on getting out there the weekend after this one (no daytona ride for me, I'm broke) - lets hit those trails.

I ride that area all the time. I've got friends in Longcreek. I've never been to Lake Tugaloo, though.

Nice idea DD. I visit a friend often in Clayton, and now that I have the DRZ, I'll be taking it with me on my next trip up. I may give you a shout ahead of time, and if you can get away, maybe you could show me around.

Great stuff, Clay! Looking forward to riding up there again soon.

Sure thought that water crossing pic would be up by now

I've been busy. "Had to go see a man about a dog" as they say in these parts.

I have been wanting to save it for a tag. I am afraid if I place it this time of year then it will sit. The last time I was there in February I wound up pushing the KLR out of the river.

Murrays Cove Road at Lake Burton.

This road is kind of residential and has walkers and weekender traffic on the weekends and construction traffic during the week. It does have 5 miles of continuous tight curves and you get to see some of the lake "cabins".

That looks a bit like old 441 on the way to the lake, which is a great road as well with the same description, am I even close?

No this cuts between Bridge Creek Road and Charlie Mountain Road on the opposite side of the lake from 197.

Chattooga Town

Technically this is in Oconee County South Carolina but you can throw a rock across the Chattooga River and it will land here, so close enough. Plus this is a great riding area. Hwy 28 is well known for it's curves, but since there is not a t-shirt shop located here you won't find near as many people. The area around Highlands NC will have more traffic but from Walhalla SC to the NC border there is very little traffic, great roads and access to wonderful dual sporting opportunities.

Chattooga town was the location of one of the smaller Cherokee Towns. The fields were never plowed with machines so archeologsts have been able to find a lot of information about the Cherokee town.

Several miles below here a 32' long dugout canoe was found that was used as a ferry along this trade route. It is not known if it was made by the Cherokee or the early settlers since it was made using steel tools. Both cultures overlaped when the canoe was made and had similar designs. The canoe now resides at the Oconee Heritage Center in Walhalla SC

http://www.oconeeheritagecenter.org/...&id=3&Itemid=1

If you look at the picture of the canoe being carried up the river, I am the fourth person on the right and one of the few wearing a whitewater helmet. (ATGATT)

Later, the area served as a farm and roadhouse for travelers going to Highlands and Cashiers. It is now known as Russell House or Russell Fields.

The house was struck by lightning in the 80's and burned to the ground. Only the outbuildings remain and it is kind of a neat stop.

Clay, had a good ride today with you and Coates. I just got home. Funny thing is after I left Coates I found myself on Germany Rd and rode right by your house! I was gonna stop in but decided to run to the gas station by your place and get some gas and solider on.
