Talking White Rim Canyon

This was a nice trek we took last year. We started here:

Rode down the road a ways:

Naively, we thought we'd gotten past the hard part:

Kept going:

And going ...

And helped folks out turning around ...

We stopped here to combat heat exhaustion and fatigue after a long stretch of soft sand and an even longer stretch ahead:

Here's Freya toting my girlfriend's pannier that fell off during a spill (with a golf-ball sized hole in the bottom from a sharp edged boulder) ...

And up some nasty scrambly areas:

And up, with help, a much steeper, nasty 500' cliff with 4 switchbacks and loose sand, gravel, and rock. It would have made a really nice picture had I not been clinging on for dear life while gunning it and been sure that, at that particular moment, I was actually going to make it ...

And finally, out the other side 120 miles and 13 hours later ...

(It was too dark to get pictures of the muddy river, sand, mudflats, and final climb out, assuming I'd had the patience.)

If you're going to do White Rim, I recommend spending at least 2 days doing it.

Nice bike, I love that color scheme!!!

When I bought my new one last year in October that is what I was going to get, but the 3 month wait was too much so I took a red 2012 for $2,000 off and called it good!
