to hear about sizing and fit and postage costs..

I like the look of that better than the zeus.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO - what a ride!"

beware ordering helmets from OS - they probably wont come with the Australian AS sticker and are therefore illegal

Interesting, the same thing used to happen for bike racing MX in our case, but Motorcycling Aus decided in their wisdom to allow any helmet with a Dot or Snell sticker to be legal, to cease all the bitching from discruntled internet shoppers.

here we go again

Thanks Greg

I managed to find a few threads on the subject and reading through them and the link you offered...plus the comments of Outback just now...what are we left with??

It seems everyone has read the Standards and various State regs and still no-one can definitively say whether the use of a helmet without an AS sticker is legal or not

What I will offer is an ABC documentary within the last 2 years that went right through the subject of helmet use in Australia and the coverage focused on the guy that does the testing of helmets and why some pass the AS test and some dont.
They catagorically said that any helmet without the AS sticker was illegal for use in all States of Australia.

Things might have changed since that documentary.

Mmmm...

Is this the same lid as the AFX FX-37?? Looks like it is... and $AU105 at your door (sorry ararat ) from http://www.teamspyder.com/products/view/Motard/93. Limited range of sizes though.

The Spyder website quotes the lid as ECE 22.05 Safety Rated so it meets the international (Euro) standard. Curious as to why they didn't say it met AS1698 instead .

Spyder Lid:

AFX Lid:

Has anyone bought one the Spyder lids?

Wondering if this one of those "you get what you pay for" products or is it a better bargain than the Zeus (which I already own).

A mate of mine got done recently, rides a HD and wears one of those silly black lids that offer similar protection to an ice cream container, no sticker of course.

and more

An ABC story about the only manufacturer of helmets in Australia and why the ACCC used the courts to shut them down because they didn't comply to Australian Standards - have a read it's worth it
http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/stories/s162616.htm

An extract - Where the competent authorities come to us to say that there are helmets that don't meet those standards, it's our task to bring those before the courts to have them removed from the market.
