This tag still remains ungotten
Just over a covered bridge with a common name
Other regions continue their quests
While putting the First State to shame

Dude -- Delaware was the first state to ratify the United States Constitution - the same Constitution we still use today, even in Virginia. Hence the "First State" nickname. And we've got more than our share of historical stuff, given our small size alongside history-laden neighbors like Pennsylvania and Virginia.

I think I might be on to this tag location ... overnight low 11 degrees ... hmm ...

Better go beat me to it, Jeff. My bike had been in the shop for a valve adjustment, but I'll probably be riding to work tomorrow, so if I can sneak off early....

holy crap, i just realized where the tag was.

unfortunately the only thing i can think of to tag in DE isn't there right now. it would have to wait until november when the x-mas lights go up.

Got it!

Beaver Dam Road at the state line, near Smiths Bridge. And what do you know, it does go through to Beaver Valley Road on the PA side -- that's how I rode off to work.

I'm at work now, but I'll have the new tag up tomorrow AM, I swear. Good riding weather this weekend!

New tag:

A beach. Not much of one, but a beach nonetheless. Named for the guy who famously produced this map, among his other endeavors:

... back before Delaware existed.

Refreshments are available nearby.

Hint: the cooling tower just visible behind my hand is not in Delaware.

I had a helper -- no need to get yourself in your version of the tag shot.

Augustine Beach on Rt 9. Lots of bikes out today; I thought someone would beat me to it.

Here is the sign at Augustine Beach;

Route 9 in this area of Delaware is a very enjoyable road.
The new tag shortly.

The new tag.

Here's the new tag.

This large memorial has inscribed the names of those valiant men and women of the state of Delaware and the state of New Jersey who gave their lives in the service of the United States of America during World War II and the Korean War.

Good grab, cyclejohn, and you're right about that stretch of DE 9.

If your new tag is still there tomorrow ...
