Mid-hieght MX Boots?

Who makes mid-height MX style boots? The only ones I have found so far are the Fly Racing Singer Shorty.

It's 11" tall, so about the height of a combat boot. I'm not interested in the really short ones that just barely come up over the ankles, like the Thor 50/50.

I don't know what your definition of mid-height is but Sidi Discovery's are great boots that are shorter than standard mx boots. Also Aerostich's Combat boots come in two sizes, one is very short.....they are made by sidi also but have a internal quick lace system.

Shin protection is rather important for off road riding , without it you are looking for pain . SEYA

I'm not really going to be doing any offroad riding. But I will be doing a lot of dirt/gravel roads. I want better ankle protection than what street boots can offer, but in a shorter boot than a standard MX boot.

You might try the Alpinestars Tech 2. Basically the bottom half of a Tech 3. A lot sturdier and more protective than a Thor 50/50.

Go here to see a good general use dual sport/off road boot:

Very flexible once broken in, but still excellent support. Multi purpose too, fitting under jeans. Mine have about 35 years use at this point.

I've got the thor 50/50 in the same color as you've posted. Man I really like these. I don't however plan on riding a motorcycle with them, they are my bicycling boots

I use THE brand knee/shin armor and it reaches down to the boots.

Shin protection is important, a lot of people get leg injuries from slow speed tip overs where the bike lands on your lower leg. I have a pair of Joe Rocket Meteor boots, but I'm replacing them with a pair of Alpinstar Tech 3's for dualsport riding. I spoke with the Parts Canada guy at a bike show and he said the Tech 3's would be a good dualsport boot. I'll mostly be riding gravel roads and easy trails.

My 2 cents.

Cheers

I've been looking at the Tech 3, but they feel so much like ski boots. Do they loosen up enough that you can shift easily with them? I was looking at the shorter boots hoping to get a little more flexibility.

They probably won't get flexible enough to where you can shift like you do in work boots, and if they do its time to replace them. Change how you shift (lift your foot up instead of flexing your ankle) and they work fine, takes a few shifts to get used to it though.

+1 on the Tech 3's. Bought them instead of the Tech 2 because I wanted something higher. Commute to work in them, ride dirt on weekends. Have even walked around the city (not ideal but liveable in a pinch). Great all-around boot if protection is important and budget is a concern.
