Cool2 3,701.6 miles Eddie98 & Vixen's 2nd ride to Canada

Thursday, July 2nd.....bikes are loaded and waiting patiently in the garage for Eddie & I to be released from our chains (i.e. work ).

Backing up a little, here's a brief summary of how it all started (stay with me folks, I promise I have LOADS of pics coming up):

Around about February or March "ish", I get a "family" email entertaining the idea of a birthday party for my Nana. #1, her birthday is in July. #2, I am from and most of my family still lives in London, Ontario (or parts thereabout).

So I discuss this with my boyfriend, and we come up with the OBVIOUS decision............BIKE TRIP! We live in Georgia, and cleared 10 days for this trip.

Now last year (I promise this will be short), Eddie & I did our first long bike trip (more than our occasional 3 day weekend trip) and we did it on our sportbikes. He wrote a short RR here: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=361469

In May of this year, we joined a group from Georgia and did the eastern half of the TAT (group rides are a whole different experience ). For the TAT trip, I bought an XT225. But that wasn't gonna cut it for the Canada trip. And although I would've had a blast taking the gixxer to Canada again, it would've limited us to paved roads (I don't have the balls that our friend Blake has (ahem........obviously )). BTW Blake...where's your "Baja on a Gixxer" report?
SO ANYWAYS..........nothing to do but to go shopping right? Picked up an '02 F650GS off a fellow inmate, thanks Brent! (no you CANNOT buy her back ). I quickly got to know the bike, it's an easy bike to get comfortable with. Eddie & I headed out one Sunday for a 300 - 400 mile ride to see how she behaved on a full day of riding. Eddie on his DL650, me on the Beemer.......through our north Georgia mountains to Tennessee, on some forestry roads, and home again. No problems! I "heart" my new bike!!!

Trip planning was a short discussion on the couch with a few maps laid out, and very quickly we decided that we would "high tail" it to Ohio so we could spend a little bit of time with my mom & my big brother & his family. From there, through Detroit (we ruled out the Pelee ferry because of ferry times), to Windsor to London........whoa!!!! I'm getting ahead of myself a little.........deep breath and on to the good stuff

packed and loaded...

a week or two before the trip, we put a new chain & sprockets on the beemer and had new or nearly new tires on both bikes. We took spare clutch cables (the clutch cable on Eddie's KLR needed to be replaced on our TAT trip), along with the typical "might need" stuff (slime, patches, etc) - better to have and not need than to need and not have

Wednesday evening, July 1st.....

Passports, money (some Canadian left from last years trip), clothes, tools, camping gear, clear visors, etc. etc. etc.

--------------------------------------

awww crap!

*stay tuned...slight technical difficulty. This is the problem with one couple living between two houses...damn economy (not that I'm complaining....we're very fortunate to each have our own homes but it gets to be such a pain in the sometimes because it seems no matter what you need and which house your at it's always at the other house Just like right now....the beginning pictures are on a memory stick at...you guessed it....the other house
My apologies...I'll continue this WITH PICS tomorrow. For now, let me say that we had an incredible ride around Lake Huron & Lake Superior, broke even at a casino, saw a bear along the way, went on a moose hunting expedition (no luck there), found our way through maizes (haha, clever eh? ) of corn, crossed the mighty mississippi so many times I lost count, saw an enormous arch (and a couple pair of golden one's too), and even discovered a hidden treasure close to home that we will be visiting soon

So, sorry again for the delay. I know, I suck
