Speaking of things you can't get in the US...

In the process of buying some new Enduro 3 Saharas for the GSPD, I noticed that Metzeler Enduro 1s can still be bought new in Mexico and they're STUPID cheap. $42US for a 2.75-21 front and $58US for a 4.10-18 rear. As many of you know these are the stock tires for the G/S and were specially developed by Metzeler to grace the original G/S and have not been available in the states for quite some time. For all you diehards doing concourse restorations, you can still get your original tires down here in Mexico.

Saharas are a hell of a lot cheaper down here too. $190 a pair for 21" front / 17" rear vs. over $300 in the states.

I was looking for a decent set of street tires for the R80g/s as I was going to be doing a lot of road travel, and after looking at all the options I decided to try a set of Continental Go tires in a 90/90-21 and 4.00-18. At $210 for the pair they were cheaper than most other street choices and this was in September when tire inventory gets low and I was having a hard time finding any matching tire brand and model in the sizes I needed. Some tires had the rear out of stock, some had the front out of stock. These were both available and the price was right.

Overall I was pretty impressed with them. I left the house just north of Deals Gap and headed out to the south end of the Outer Banks on back roads, in 80+ degree weather. On the way home I took another back road route and found myself in rain most of the way, including the twisty sections around Chimney Rock in 40 degree weather. The tires never slipped, never surprised me, never made me lose confidence.

If all you need is a street tire these are a pretty good choice. Nice and quiet too.

NFI of course but Revzilla has the Heidenua K60 (110-80x18) $92, in stock along witht he fronts. I mention this because the 18 has been very hard to get at times. I know spec is 120 but I've used about 3 of the 110's and it fits just find, plus it's very close the swing arm. The front is $84, free shipping but there is some $5 fee thrown in.

Looking for some feedback on the proper sized Heidenau K60 rear tire for my new to me R80G/S. It appears that most folks are running a 120/80-18, although the German Heidenau site recommends a 120/90-18 for the R80G/S.

Can someone shed some light on this?

I don't think you can get the sizes you mention....not here in the states. I run the 110/80-18 w/ no problems.

I spoke with someone today that has the 120/90-18 and there is a canadian website that offers the 120/80-18.

I'm on a new favourite best ever combination tyre set until I change my mind or riding style.
Previous favourite was Bridgestone ED11- ED12 combination but now I want something that preforms at times when I'm not being full on agro as well as when I am being like that.

Michellin HP4 fronnt
Dunlop 606 rear.

Don't use the HP4 on the rear a G/S will chew it up in short time.
The 606 front feels vague like it wants to wash out.
On my bike anyway others may love them.

If you can live with 4.000 miles front and up to 2,250 miles rear before your tyres loose enough edge you want to chuck them take a look at the combination.

Good in all terrain and suprisingly good on road (for a knob)

does anyone know where to get Dunlop 606 tyres in Europe?

saw historical posts of guys asking, but with no real leads at the time. The Fleaybay offers I found all turn out to be US imports

When I asked the Dutch importer they said they could order them for me but it wil take a bit longer than normally.

I noticed that Distanzia tires come in both radial and biased ply in sizes to fit a R100GS. I called the Avon tech number and asked about the difference (handling, off road, wear, ect) but got no information other than that they are available.

Anybody have information on the differences?

Our shop has sold a few of the K60's in a 120/90-18. They are available in the US from time to time.
