Thanks Lentil. Do lower footpegs affect ground clearance? What are dog bones?

Oiling the chain
While I'm on a roll.
Whats the best way to oil the chain. Usually with my dirtbikes I tilt the bike on the stand and roll the rear tyre along by hand giving the chain a squirt on the way but I'm afraid if I do this for the big girl I'll drop it on myself. It's too low to get my stand under it as well.

650 gearing
Anyone tried lower gearing on the wee strom? I am keen to try one tooth less on the front sprocket.

The standard gearing is reasonably low with the std. 14 tooth. A 13 tooth sprocket is getting fairly small in diameter for this type of bike. Apparently there are some chain and other issues but I'm only vaguely clear on this. Obviously there will be slightly more wear but that's not a great concern. Somebody else will have a clearer understanding. Why do you want to go smaller? Wheelies? You could also consider 2 or 3 more teeth on the rear.
I went up to 15 teeth on the front but that was to make touring not so busy. It's a bit high tho when in crawling traffic. I |
