US 90 = the Ole Spanish Trail. A lot of history on this road. I once did a pretty good report on it from Lafayette to the Texas border. Was fun tracing the old road which was gravel at the time. I never did publish it I don't think. May go back in my files, redo the run , take more pictures and try to incorporate it into this one.

Yes was Daryl. Love the thing. With baggy pants, I can slip in a front pocket. I doubt if I'll ever learn all it can do. ;-)
I was able to crop the pictures which help out on bringing out the bike. I wish I would of taken more pictures rather than visiting with people so much. LOL.
I run LA 82 from Oak Groove towards Kaplan yesterday. Need to look at those pictures today. Camera still in tank bag on the Bandit.

Decided to make a run on LA 82 Yesterday afternoon. Cut across Little Chenier Ridge out in the marsh. Had never been down this road which ended up being about 8 miles of limestone.

Nothing but flat marshland and canals out here just to the west of the Mermentau River headed for the gulf maybe 5 miles away.

Also crossed a lot of cattle guards and saw a few cattle.

Getting to the end of the road it turns to blacktop and camps and docks start appearing. Pictured is one of the Butterfly Net barges use for shrimping. In the back ground you can see many more. Some are just hooked to the dock and lowered into the water when the current is running.

More later.

Today, I went another direction besides to the coast. The Morganza Spillway and Achafaliya basin area where the waters of the Mississippi are being dump to save Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
The first pictures is the Achafaliya and spillway at Krotz Springs headed for Lottie on US 190.

Then just off the bridge.

A flooded boat launch and park up on LA 105 above Krotz Springs.

This cool old iron bridge up the road aways.

By the way, this is the same road that Easy Rider ended on back in the day. Poor Captain America and Billy.

I've passed that iron bridge before. That is definitely in an out the way area. I rode in that part of the state a few weeks ago and intentionally left my GPS at home. That was a mistake; there are some remote roads up there.

Are you people getting the high water yet?
My Garmin 276C is just great for finding and checking out back roads. I want to get the topo for our area as it shows all the gullies and bayous and stuff where the NA program doesn't.

The extra water from Morganza apparently hasn't made to us yet, but I don't think it's going to be as bad as originally predicted. The forecast had been for as much as a 13' crest at Morgan City, now it looks like 11'. My home should be OK; I actually live in Assumption Parish, which will see some backwater flooding in certain areas but the lowered forecast is looking a lot better. There is an awful lot of water "in the system" as the Corps likes to say. I took this photo at Bonnet Carre. To the right in the picture there's a highway that runs across to the other side. Looks to be under about 15 feet or more of water now.

I may take a run to Henderson this afternoon to see how it's happening in that area. The roads to the Morganza spillways were all closed that I came across.

Been awhile since I've posted anything on this thread. Did get a few pictures yesterday of Louisiana Rice Harvest as it's going on full blast reguardless of the heat. 97F in the shade as I write this. With about 60% humidity in our area at present.
Run upon this action just 5 miles South of Jennings on LA 26.
1st we have a Combine offloading to a field cart.

Now the Field Cart is headed for the truck trailers to offload for a trip to the dryers in the area.

Here's a close up of the big Combine just near the road fixing to make a turn.

Great roaming the area and smelling the fresh cut stalks and the dust in the air.

Roaming about last Saturday and found the Stearman Fly In was here in Jennings. Didn't want to go in but did get a few over the fence shots. Jennings is one of the few places in the states that you can taxi your aircraft right up to the back of the motel here.

The tall ( well, 2 stories is tall here ) building in the back ground is the Hospital in case of accidents.

The parking pad for air craft staying over night.

Some of them Taxing for take off.

One on the Go while others wait.

A couple air formation shots. I had the Minota on lots of zoom and hand held so a bit blurry.

They need gasoline also. Wonder what the price of that fuel is.

That was about it for my picture taking today. The sounds of their engines were present most all day Saturday about the sky in Jennings. Love seeing those old planes come down here once a year.

Roaming about yesterday after a trip to the graveyard to check on the old Civil War Memorial,

I came across these geese right along side of the road. Just beautiful to watch.

Even the traffic on LA 26 didn't phase them which was about 20 feet off the road.

Neat thread!

I spent a few years flying up and down Victor 20 in the early 80's. That airway (V-20) runs East-West between Houston and Gulfport, MS, so I got to look at this area a lot from 3 to 8 thousand feet, lower when landing at Lafayette and Lake Charles. It's really neat to see what it looks like from up close after all these years.

The 'before and after' shots of a few of the less fortunate communities is sobering.

Thanks for the thread and the photos - especially the treat at the end with photos of the Stearman fly-in at Jennings. I have a friend who has been to that many times, by I never made it. Maybe someday...

Awesome Pictures

Great thread. I was thru Cameron and Holly Beach in May 2011. I was last there in 1983. I didn't realize the entire area had been washed away
