Here is a quote he made recently about XR650R engines and parts on another site.

"650R is the same. I had JE make us 11:1 pistons with OEM rings pin and clips. That's what we used in 00-05 (Safari race engines). I ran out of them and never re-ordered because the HRC piston had become more common and not horrendously expensive and so many people with no idea (my opinion) told me the Wiseco rings were fine.
In the odd 650R engine I do now the customer has usually bought a pile of expensive billet junk from the US of A and wants me to assemble the mess. I smile, take their money and do the work. They don't ask my what I think, some expert has already told them" end quote

As far as the race engines he built Glen Hoffman always proudly boasts they never had an XR650R fail or DNF and they won a few and always placed. Thats a lot of years and lot of miles and a pretty good record I reckon.

Maybe useless information, but something I found interesting

few questions:
how many k's travelled in a safari
if he has never tried wiseco rings how does he know they are no good.

that is why i like the forums as you can find real peoples real world experiences with the parts .
In this case i have to conclude that i never heard of any problems with oem valve springs nor the kibblewhite , they both seem good , that means the price should decide . Strangely the oem valves are priced differently , the exhaust valves cost more than the intake valves , the reason must be that the exhaust valves are somehow stronger/ better = more expansive to produce , the other companies have them priced at the same price , hmmmm interesting .
The exhaust valves are a two piece welded valve, more cost to make i guess.
