Safari around 6,000km's including transport sections, around 3,500 km's in specials.

EOM rings are thinner than Wisco rings, pistons have different ring grooves.
Thinner rings work better with NIKASIL bores is the general opinion being it is a hard lining.

Talking to Nick Dole awhile back, they would race the 650R in safari,
take it home trail ride it and at 10,000km's freshen the engine up.
( Not to be confused with rebuild the engine )
Unless if it was Jamie Cunninghams bike.

that is why i like the forums as you can find real peoples real world experiences with the parts .
In this case i have to conclude that i never heard of any problems with oem valve springs nor the kibblewhite , they both seem good , that means the price should decide . Strangely the oem valves are priced differently , the exhaust valves cost more than the intake valves , the reason must be that the exhaust valves are somehow stronger/ better = more expansive to produce , the other companies have them priced at the same price , hmmmm interesting .
I worked for Honda and talked extensively with mechanics and race teams on a number of things.
You have to expect that they will use OEM wherever possible and even if not they will not tell. If they throw a con rod out the motor, they will secret the bike away never to be seen and all involved will say "we had an electrical issue".

There is nothing wrong with OEM at all and rarely will any other aftermarket parts do much better. You could do worse than spend your cash on suspension and ignition with the XR.

As for the XR650r it is still today a lot of bike today even in standard trim. You can buy any number of bits and pieces for it but you will unlikely be able to use it to its full potential anyway.

I was once told that Kawasaki Z900 valve springs on the XR will give 5hp. Hmmmm

I do know that the likes of GHR stopped using the HRC piston in favour of the standard slug because it gave better results on the dyno. The HRC cam chain and cam were the go. All these and other things were trial and error but most of all they needed to return performance and reliability.

A great saying is that you can only ever have two of the following three offerings

Cheap - Fast - Reliable

Take your pick.

Most importantly on the Honda one thing was impressed upon me more than any other go fast or reliabilty part on the planet.......

a torque wrench.

Build it to spec and and live and die by your torque wrench.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO - what a ride!"

A $1000 Scott damper - funny that, I just bought one for $200 odd.....

I guess he thinks someone wants exactly what he wanted, very unlikely. Those fairings are worth almost $2k though.

... the XR is the greatest off road motorcycle ever constructed. There's nothing it can't do, hasn't won or will not outperform.
