I rolled in about an hour ago. Yes, it was rolandska that crashed. He busted up his collarbone, possibly some ribs, and took a good shot to the head. DannyG used his sattellite phone to call for help. The ranger and ambulance got there and let us know that the helicopter was coming.

After the helicopter evac, we continued to Pioneer Town without further serious incidents.

We got to Pioneer Town about 3pm and I headed for home about 4:30pm.

Aside from the crash, we had a great ride today.

Guys riding tomorrow: lots of dust and ruts, so keep some space between riders.

Email me within the next hour for our gps track: timbarstow@yahoo.com

Yes. It is closed. Just past that intersection is where the crash was today.

A DSM8'ed ride report

If you say it they will come….

And come they did for the second annual run to Pioneer town, the town crier (Sito) made the call and people showed up in droves….

What you don’t get a sense of was the total number of riders somewhere in the 20+ range.

We got to the meeting spot a few minutes after 8 and there were two groups. The ones that were ready to roll (Rider914 and crew) and those still getting their shat together. So the “Fast” group took off and I decided for the hell of it to ride with them…this will come back to haunt me later in the ride report.

The route was provided by our own in house map-ographer (my word, patent pending so you cant use it!! ) Rider914.

The route:

138 to Summit Valley Road
Take this into Hesperia to Rock Springs road
Route up through Big Pin Flats into Holcomb Valley
Eventually you end up on Hwy 18 and peel off at Cactus Springs to take that dirt road
Eventually you end up back on pavement for the final push to Pioneer town.

Ride started off easy enough and our group split up into two parties, the side trail party and the main road party. I was in the later of the group.

This was right before we split up.

On the way up to the meeting place I saw what I am labeling as broken rock, a foreshadowing of what was to come for the other riders/groups I think…

A lot of the ride was very easy and fast paced conditions

But of course in every group there has to be that “One” that manages to plant the bike or otherwise hurt themselves, luckily in this case there was only one witness and he dropped his bike at the same time so there were no pictures while I was still under the bike…

I hit a nice little buried ledge that just threw me off to the side of the road straight into a tree..my shoulder will be sore for a few days I am sure.

Shortly after my calisthenics workout (picking up the bike) we get to the top and this guy come around the corner. He was the one that just bought the 990 for the DV Noob rally but I cant remember his name.

He was much faster on this little beast and didn’t take long to come into and the go out of sight.

Bastard….

So we finally made it to Pioneer town for lunch and some

What surprised us was there wasn’t anyone else there.

It wasn’t until later we heard about the crash. Hope he is feeling better soon.

So the ambiance was good.

Company even better.

After lunch we headed home via 174, some took dirt I took pavement. Shoulder was too hurt to warrant trying to handle the bike in sand ect.

I did get a picture of the wildflowers so here you go, think happy thoughts or what ever you peace luvin new age hippies do these days…

So other than the broken clavicle, punctured lung, stranded bike, abandoned truck, missing riders, and late night trips home in the dark I think this cat-herding excursion went very well.

I just spoke to Henry on the phone and he was in reasonably good spirits.
He is at Arrowhead Hospital but they are letting him go home tomorrow.
He has broken ribs, partially collapsed lung (which is re-inflating on its own), a broken collarbone and a concussion. (all that sounds familar)
He doesn't remember anything from until right before the crash until waking up in the helo.
I busted him for stealing my gig and we decided on a 'old-mans ride' after he's healed up.
Sounds like his stuff is taken care of.

I am glad to hear it was not all that serious and he is taken care of.

Never like to hear of stuff like this happening on these rides.

and then it was done

What a day!
I met up with RSC450 in the early twilight and we were on our way after a delay due to KTM tie-down difficulties. After figuring out a good place to unload the beast We were off. Shortly thereafter a super enduro found its way onto its side. After a 5 minute repair, we were off once again. Then we met up with the main group who was stoped changing a flat. After making a left at the T just past the closed campground, Henry crashed bad and had to be air-lifted out. Before the crash, RSC450 was on his way to PioneerTown by himself. I had the key to his truck so after Henry was lifted, I hurried to PioneerTown just in time to meet up with the first group as they were getting ready to head back. I understand that I missed some good technical riding that the first group had just done :( The pack thinned out and then we had the next flat tire. I thought I would provide some assistance, since the guys were not familiar with my mighty red handled tire irons and their magic tube pinching abilities. 2nd tube installed and we were off. We gassed up, said bye to Riceless and slabbed it most of the way home. Hit some dirt on the way, but it was pretty dusty. Hope Henry heals quickly. Another ride in the story book.
