Yep, that's it. We just reached the 12 months to go point. Seems like time is disappearing fast. Every weekend is booked for the summer and so many things to do.

I just got the KLR titled last night & Jessica & I came up with a name for it, Green Max. Wee Googled it & nothing much came up so it's original We've got a friend in MT who does custom airbruching on bikes. When we get there I'll have him do a Big Daddy Roth Rat Fink kind of thing on it. I've always liked those since I was a kid in CA. I've got some Dual-Sport riding pants on the way & think I've found the boots I want. (http://www.ridersdiscount.com/offroa...-men/50453.php)

I'll wear some kind of under layer(s) with Alpinstar's Bionic Armor over.

You can't see it in the picture but it has an integrated back-protector that covers down over the tail bone.

Followed by a riding jersey like this.
I'd suggest going a different route.....but again its just a suggestion. The "pressure" suits were basically designed for down hill mountain bike use. I use one for trail riding but recognize it has little redeeming protection on the street. The back protector is a good thing but the mesh that holds it all together allows for the armor to move around a bit in the event of a major crash....most of the woods type crashes occur at low to medium speed. The other thing is these suits are bulky and dont pack well. I have a Rev-It OffTrack jacket that has vents in the sleeves, chest, and removable side panels that worked very well in Nevada a few summers ago. So I think I'd aim more towards a jacket that can be stripped down or built up to work with your conditions...you will wear it all the time and will save the packing space.

I'm sure you two are familiar with www.horizonsunlimited.com ... lotsa stuff there for the world traveler. I just saw Annette Birkmann's presentation about her ride around South America, up to the US, and then across the US. http://www.flow-point.net/WELCOME.welcome.english.php

Her presentation revolves around what NOT to do, as she did her trip with really NO experience to speak of. Of course this made for some great stories, but you are MUCH more prepared and have a whole year to get everything lined up.

I, for one, am green with envy.

Best o' Luck.

i'm stoked for you, man !

we'll keep in touch over this next year and beyond(hell, pull my leg and i'll ride south with you for awhile if i can work it).

i might be doing the MEX2CAN ride this fall or next spring. that could be a small practice ride for your set up.

KLR was the right choice.

your riding gear were all good choices.

you can still wear a jacket over your pressure suit.

also look up the Acerbis Desertika jacket HERE.
it's not cheap, but you can wear a LEATT brace and pressure suit.

i know you'll do this trip with no prob. dude, you did it by yourself on yr DUC.

BTW , you're selling your Ducati ????????? NO !!!!!!!!!

Mex2can

Hey man,

Let me know on the MEX2CAN. I can probably meet up with you in OR. Do you have a link to the route?
Yeah, the Ducati is sold, but fortunately to a good friend of mine & I still get to ride it for the rest of the summer & when he's out of town, which is a lot because he's a fisherman.

We're looking at doing the Horizon's Unlimited meet in BC in Aug if you happen to be up this way.

Yeah, I'm definitely the planner. Jess can attest to that. We've got every weekend from now until late Sep booked up. Life gets busy.

Thanks. We just did a 4 1/2 day ride up to central BC for the Horizons Unlimited Meet. The post is here:
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=10651317#post10651317

Everything worked well. The Alpinstars kept me very cool. I need better, waterproof boots & gloves but I knew that. Also, the Thor pants I got which claimed to be waterproof aren't. I'll have to see what I can spray them down with to improve that.

Thanks mate. I'll try that when we get back from vacation. Heading back to IN where I grew up to see the family & go to the MotoGP Indianapolis race.
