I really hope Yamaha builds the wr450r/x machine.
Now that it is 1/1/10, will we have to wait to see if they roll out a version of this until the end of 2010????

Just a FYI there is a WR450R petition
http://www.petitiononline.com/wr450r/
I don't know how reliable or possible effect this will have on Yamaha making a decision to make a WR450R but who knows?

Oh yeah, I signed #182 , I hear rumors but everyone(dealers) seems to be MUM about the whole thing (as if they(yamaha) wants to give the dealers time to get rid of their current inventory). just a thought.

When the New Wr250r first came out - Were they taking orders for the bike in the Beginning of March before the Bike came out???

I created the petition, just looking into getting Hiroyuki Yanagi's email...

Any updates on this? I've bought 3 motorcycles since Aug 2008 and none of them were Yamaha. I would buy a street legal 450r before it even hit the showroom floor. Unless of course I buy an EXC which is highly likely at this point since no 450r is on the horizon.

+1 except I parted out my XT350. I still have an XT200 for garage decoration.

I rode Yamahas that I bought new from 1982 until 2003. I got sick of waiting and bought a used KTM. I could care less if Yamaha ever builds a decent big bore dual sport again. My blue helmet looks fine with black and orange. My next new bike will be another KTM dual sport.

any info about Jonah Street's Bike for the dakar rally or any other wr450 rally bikes?

I david fretigne jumped ship from Yamaha to BMW after being so successful on the Yamaha WR450.

I hope it works out for him. But my money is on the Yamaha!

WR450F with a JVO kit. Doesn't have anything to do with a potential WR450R if it's like WR250F vs. WR250R.

Building 450 dual sport is not difficult. Here is a winning and proven receipt for yamaha to use:

-YZ450 engine and engine management
-Add 6th gear and increase spread
-Bring torque peak down 1000rpms with different camshaft
-Rev limiter down 1000rpms
-Possibly replace valves with heavier and more durable material now that rev limiter has been brought down
-Longer rod if rod angle is problematic

The thing is that 95% of the users never even use the 5hp which above modifications would cut, not even on mx track. Yet those make the engine last forever in dual sport use because it can no longer be abused. Then just print a manual which says valve check only needed every 10,000km's and you're done and people think it magically became super reliable. Oil change doesn't matter, only a fool would do 10,000km's between oil change no matter what manual says so it might just as well say it never needs one.

450 in a 250

Not sure if this has been brought up but would be interestine for those of us in tought to license states.

Would a 450f motor go into a 250r frame without too much trouble/fabrication?

That and a suspension tunning would make the perfect fully licensed bike in my mind.

But I dont know much about that kind of thing..
