It surprises me that the fishing and hunting are prohibited in the wildlife areas. Hunting lodges are being notified that they are not permitted to use the land/water. I wonder what's next federal highways, the Gulf of Mexico, the Buffalo River?

This is revealing how over reaching the Feds are, into the sovereign states...

I've heard that too. I read that the canoe rentals on the buffalo river are shut down and its really going to impact their income. The gubbment should be cutting their own spending or cut some of this aid they are sending to other countries that hate us. Closing our parks and memorials are just being done to fuck with us IMO.

Exactly. It will cost the gov more to keep the public away from our natural resources than they spend "managing" it....like Mother Nature needs our help managing things.

Exactly. Many in congress on all sides WANT the public pissed off. There is NO REASON the float operators and fishing guides can't keep operating as normal on the Buffalo River.

I dare them to tell 100,000 rednecks they can't hunt the public forest lands.

Yeah reading the specs on that and other things lead me to believe we are on a verge of a totally new direction in GPS. That's why I hate to sink a lot of money into one right now. The little Nuvi 500's i have work great on the rides we do on mappable roads. But they will not do Tracks like the Blue Loop last weekend. I was hoping to pick up a decent GPS to do that. I don't think there is currently one out there that will do everything I need it to do. But I'm thinking that will change in the near future.

So what think you all guru's of the electronic navigation devices? What should I fill the gap with cheaply till the next generation comes out?

I'm no gps guru, but android apps like the one I use will be the way of the future. In my opinion.

I mean, my phone has dual 1.5ghz processors, two gigs of ram, and a high def screen that's a nice and easy to see 4.7 inches across. Considering they have GPS sensors in them, all you need is the right software And maybe a weatherproof case.

With my $9 program I can import/export .gpx and .kml/.kmz files, record view and export tracks, select different map sources on the fly, save all maps to memory so service is never an issue, etc.

I still haven't been convinced that a standalone GPS is worth the extra coin. Then again, I've never actually used one.

Buffalo River is shut down. Canoe/kayak concessionaires aren't allowed to access the river, no can float it, nothing. All the access points are barricaded.

Can't come soon enough. I have a hard time believing Garmin is still in business, let alone the fact that people are willing to spend $600 on a single-purpose unit.
