Was headed out to Mossy Creek this afternoon to have a TuBliss put in the front tire of the KTM, but Travis didn't think I could make it up the hill in the FJ. You could have come over and drove me up in the chained Jeep Doc, I didn't think of that till just now.

if you had the wheels pulled off and in the back of the FJ, you would make it up his drive...pulling a trailer tho, maybe not

Wheel off in back - Travis was worried I would damage one of his trees in the uphill sharp curve to the left.

He talked me out of the challenge today. I was in Springdale and turned around. Will do it tomorrow afternoon.

ok mouth..pay attention here, mmmmkay?

I like to use SLAB wood..for abt $25, you can get a bundle (usually abt a ric and a half) of slab, I like to get the skinny pieces, usually abt 6 to 8 ft long. I cut them down to abt 16 inches in length

I call these long sticks

I will take a few of the long sticks and cut them in half to make short sticks

inside my wood stove, I have two fire bricks that substitue for a grate

I will take two long sticks and lay them across the two bricks, and then I will set two short sticks across the top of the long sticks

Depending on how hot I want to get the stove going, I will sometimes do the same thing on top of what I just laid down.

I will then set a chunk of wood on top of the "tower"..this tower will ensure good air flow.

I then stuff paper in and around the tower. Not likely that this will catch right off so more paper will be stuffed in there until it catches.

Lite the paper and keep feeding paper in there until you are satisfied that it is lit. This is how I get a fire going in my wood stove. Now you know

I dont have a flue damper here, 8 inch flue..I do choke the vents down to abt the thickness of a credit card. I can usually get abt 4 hours out of that, makes a good bed of coals and throw another chunk or two of wood on there and get another 4 hours out of it.

My aunts house has the traditional pot bellied stove in it. Same principal, stack wood in there to get a good air flow around it. That set up has a 6 inch flue and does have a damper in it and when I close that and close up the air intake vent, I can get the same 4 hours out of it before setting another chunk of wood on it.

love that radiant heat tho!

My kids love this!

a 6 day weekend so far!

ok Doc, I gotcha.

my kindling pile is similar, but ive been using a catfood can stove, and 1 oz of slx ( denatured alcohol) to start mine this year... works great, no ashes, no paper mess, and light it once and done, I drag the can stove out with a firewood poker after the alky runs out, about 6 miinutes or so.

just stick the stove in the center of stove, pour alky in, build your wood cabin over it, light it, done.

also, not saying its better.

but i was out of wax starters this season, and tried this out of desperation, and now im loving it.

...sure glad my daughter is all grown up.

My daughter is 16 so she just stays home but she's about fed up with it! Supposed to have finals starting Thu which has her a bit stressed out.

Also, this has to be the most piss poor response to snow and ice that I have ever seen. The one city snow plow I saw was this morning and he was heading down 8th street with the plow up passing cars while driving in the center lane. Do they not believe in snow/ice removal around here? I thought the Oklahoma City area was bad but at least they cleared the major streets and designated snow routes fairly quickly.

+1 to that. Having lived in Minnesota, I can say with certainty that they would have laughed at this amount of snow. School would not only not have been canceled, it might have been extended! Why, when I was a kid we had to walk both ways uphill through the snow, and we liked it!

But seriously folks, I get that it doesn't snow this much very often. But it does happen. And the "gosh let's just wait around until every last flake melts" response is fairly pathetic. Slaps some plow blades on the front of the garbage trucks and get the hell out there and plow! More beet juice!

And no, I'm not going back to Minnesota. The reasons I no longer live there are many, but the fact that it is a place to well prepared for snow and ice is certainly one of them.
