I too just read it. Great read and nice to have some insite as we(girlfriend and I) are about to embark on our own adventure. Hopefuly by Friday(Nov. 21) we'll be loading up our bikes to drive out of the snow of Northern B.C., and head to Yuma and ride down the Baja. Hopefully our experience will be as good as yours.

I was just in Yuma, you'll see lots of Canadian friends

THe weather os perfect right now, if you just go with the flow everything is great in Mexico. If you are a control freak and you want it now you might have issues.

You can cross way closer to Yuma than we did in Algodones if you like. We were kinda chicken to cross at the bigger border towns, but that fear was largely unfounded.

Tecate is also a great place to cross. Very low-key. And there's a brewery.

We have a place to park our truck in Yuma, but I had thought of bcak tracking a bit and crossing at Tencate. Other than that, we were maybe thinking of Calexico if we can and straight south from there to San Felipe. From there the Pacific coast the next day? We're not in a rush and are trying not to have an "itinerary". Getting closer to being ready!! winter.

but why do you want to do that?

it's all highway from yuma to tecate on the US side. There's a just as nice highway on the mexican side. it was a toll road at san luis, it was cheap though.

you can also 'get lost' on the surface roads on the mexican side and that's a lot of fun.

the border @ Yuma is about the same size as San Luis. And surprisingly smaller than Tecate. It's hard to tell really but i think there were more lanes at Tecate. The line was MUCH longer, but then again that's very dependent on time/day of the week as well.

It might be easier to go from Tecate to San Felipe though.

I finally updated the photos after Xymotic's server move and fixed a few typos and spelling errors.

Spent the last two evenings lost in the desert again. It seems like more than a lifetime ago even though some of the memories are indelibly burned into my mind.

The XR ended up spending nearly 80 days in the shop while Honda refused a warranty claim around oil consumption followed by the dealership taking forever to get the cylinder rebored. There's probably more to this story but I'm over it. I almost sold the bike over the winter but couldn't bear to part with it. We've been exploring Mendocino, and I completed the Sheetiron 300 on it this year. Way too much fun.

I sold my F650GS earlier this year and replaced it with an F800GS that I'm farkling up for some off-road adventures including the White Mountain Research Station open-day and a trip to Panguitch, Utah.

Crashy rode to Baja with some Cafe Husky pals last winter. He's developed mad-ninja off-road skillz.

Right now I'm doing the technology start-up thing, so I'm a regular employee for the first time in ten years, without the luxury of as much vacation as I can afford. I'm contemplating riding to Austin, Texas in January to see some friends... winter in the desert southwest could be interesting, right?
