Venturing through the Northenmost Cordilleras Philippines

Back in '09, I posted a query on a local motorcycle forums about the route between the Ilocos and Abra to the Kalinga and Apayao on the northernmost part of Luzon. I wasn't able to fulfill this adventure until only recently (talking about 5 years of daydreaming about this ride! lol)

I was given a couple of days straight paid vacation. So I planned, prepped up the motorcycle and even had Telly (a friend) warm up the bike with Kaskassero with their Baler-Zambales ride. But the good thing about planning is that things always don't go as planned.

I planned to traverse the Bangued - Pudtol road via Balbalan from my jump off point in Bangued, Abra.

Day 1

The plan was to take off from Cavite @ 2am 8/14/2014 - That didn't happen. Took off instead 7am

Cavite to Bangued, Abra

Well, since most of us here know what the Manila North Road looks like I didn't took many pictures for day 1. The ride was great all the way until I reached San Fernando La Union. Traffic was comparable to EDSA (highway within Metro Manila) rush hour traffic.

Reached Bangued, Abra @ around 3pm. After looking around, the locals referred me to Lucky's Hotel and Restaurant for a value stay. It is located along Rizal St., near the town Plaza.

Please call or text Sir Richmond Venus for reservations 09065844357

After eating my mer-hap (meryenda and hapunan or snack and dinner in one), what better way to call it a day than having 2 bottles of old-fashioned San Miguel Beer Pale Pilsen.

Day 2 began with the usual early morning regimens.

Planned route for the day:

When I was preparing my bike, A guy approached me and we chit chatted. As it turns out, it was Sir Richmond Venus himself, the hotel owner and also and avid off-roader. He also mentioned that he was a friend to SuperNeo and Kap Rod (rjmvirgotaurus) and Sir JunRos (local offroad boys). What a small world.

Again Sir Richmond, thank you for your hospitality!

The mountain pass is comparable to the Halsema HWY between Baguio and Sagada, only narrower, but still with the same twisties punch. After a couple of hours of playing with its curves, the real fun began.

The problem of travelling solo is that there's no one to take pictures of you but yourself! LOL

Spectacular sceneries are endless!

If I were to stop and have a snapshot moment every now and then, I will not reach my destination before dusk.
