Got my Kimber in the mail today.

Dog Likes it

Nice walnut

And with the ghost of Chesty Puller looking over me for a few hours I got her all cleaned up. Shoots well with the aperture sights, but will probably get a scope some day.

How are you able to get a gun in the mail without having it shipped to an FFL?

Different rules for the Civilian Marksmanship Program. I have a 2nd M1 Garand on the way to my house via Fedex.

Thanks! It is a bit heavy, but not sloppy at all.

As Punkin said, the CMP is different as it used to be a government run orginization. They conduct the background checks and required to ship over night.

Kimber 82

Congrats on the Kimber 82. I really like mine. If you remeber, I bought 2. I have a scope on 1 and the peep sights on the other. It is not hard ot shoot good with the peep sights. Only thing is I have to walk to the target to see how I am doing.

Beautiful rifle.

Question...is the rifle they use in the Olympic Biathlon event a 22LR?

*And is that Kimber one of those? (rifles they use)

They were used in the Army's Marksmanship training. They are not Biathlon rifles.

That was the reason I asked. I was thinking of converting it into a biathlon rifle. Yes 22LR is the caliber, but you need five round magazines, not single shot.

The cheapest US available biathlon rifle sold in states that I'm aware of is a Izhmash, about $1600. Anschutz start at over 3K. There is some guy out in Cali that is making a $1K biathlon rifle out of a Savage target model.

There should be a glut of biathlon rifles on the market in the coming decade. Electronic rifles firing lasers at photo-reactive targets are taking over the sport. Even the Olympics is considering switching to "laser guns" for biathlon competition now.
