They where kicking everyone off the mountain so they could look for the body. By the time we made it down they had Police blocking off the entrace. I was going to take some pictures, but the cops where already giving us dirt looks so we decided to let them do their work and get out of their way.

Very sad.

I was on the other Ortega side when it closed. Earlier I rode up Maple Springs road and then down Bedford in the morning. It was a good day to ride. Sunny, warm but not hot, the hills were green, and there were some flowers blooming along Bedford. I spotted lots of smaller birds, including a large Road Runner. I was wishing that I brought a camera.

Very,very sad.

I just can't imagine things getting that bad. Hope it doesn't scar the memory of ya'lls great ride, but I know you'll always use the event as a point of reference when thinking of the day.

Grumpy Ranger?
I came through there about 1:30.
There was a cop at the Maple Springs gate but he wasn't stopping anyone.
I followed a Sheriff up the slope past the Harley, and they just waved me thru at the top.
I went all the way thru to Ortega.

Definitely a sad note to an otherwise beautiful day.

I don't see how a person could go though with it when there's a bike and such great riding to be had, anyway, glad you had a good ride and great pics too

The rider was found alive by 2 forest volunteers, I know because I was one of them. The reason for the road closure was to allow a helicopter to land and transport him to a hospital. Thanks for your patience.

Two weeks ago a guy I worked with took his life. He used a gun, but it is so sad that anyone is in that much pain. He was a good guy, as I suspect the guy on the Harley was also.

I hope they know peace now.

Harley Rider

On 4/3, I was sitting on the trail at four corners, and watched him ride by. He even waived. Seemed a little odd watching a Harley going ADV.

So what was the deal? Was it a suicide attempt? Did he try to jump off the side? Was he just 5150, disoriented and tried to dual sport his hog with bald tires and got stuck on the rocks? I'm curious because I was up there yesterday (and at Cook's) and nobody mentioned a thing. Nothing in the local papers or the OCSD logs either.

Wait. Fixt. Story (sort of) here:

Wow, thats good to know the rider was found alive! Not sure what the riders deal was, but good thing you guys controlled whatever the situation was so well. He's a lucky guy.

We where just trying to enjoy the last little bit of adventure left in Orange County. Hope the mountain stays open for a while!

I was relieved to read the rider was found alive. Thank you watchthat cactus. Do you or anyone know how the rider is doing now?

I met dessert dweller on the trialer on 04/03 though did not see a harley rider. It was very foggy that day especially at the peak.

Edit: Just read the OC link. Hopefully he can move forward constructively, prayers are with him.
