Electricity + camping in France, Italy

Hello everyone!

We want to do a little camping this summer as this will offer us some flexibility for where we go.

The internet doesn't seem to have many answers... there is a lot of information for caravans but useful to me.

If I come along on my bike to a campsite, with a tent, can I plug one of these in? ...or do I need some special connector? I'm aware Italy has a different socket so may need an adaptor.




We'll be travelling in the south of France and northern Italy, possibly going to Slovenia and Croatia!

Adapters are much easier to find these days. Hardware stores, airport/railroad shops, grocery/dry goods mall stores.

Most campings will have provisions for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60309
PNE 6h.. as that is what caravans and campers take.

Almost every camping I've been on could borrow a cable to plug into this (usually for free, you do pay a warranty fee so you bring it back) and in the other end go the plugs you show in the pictures..
If you intend to visit small campsites (1-star) it may be better to buy an adaptor yourself.

Smaller types with only 1 extension also exist, this is already rather large.

The Italian plug will work everywhere in western Europe. The German plug MAY not work in some Italian receptacles - MOST Italian sockets are flush - your problems arise when you get one that is recessed to fit the hexagonal plug.

Note the hole in your German plug and my adapter - the French throw in something unique - they have a grounding (earthing) pin that protrudes from the wall receptacle. The Italian plug will slide right by it, but any round plug will be blocked unless it has a hole for the pin.

Yes, you can plug both.

No adapter needed in France. On the camp sites they have outlets for the plugs you posted. Only at the plce you put your tent they won't fit. There are these blue plugs posted in the wiki article necessary, but at the shops, toilets etc. you can use your plugs. Only the UK has other plugs, France, Belgium, Germany, Spain etc. all use the same type.
