If anyone does find a good price on one please report back and let us know. I got a buddy that might be wanting one but may steer towards a 60 instead, just because the 478 is tough to find.

I just got a 478 from West Marine. They called around and had a unit shipped from New York to the store near me in Illinois. I paid $499 plus tax. It came with 2 hard wire harnesses. It looks brand new and had never been registered with Garmin.

I am really liking this thing. Been messing around with it, just trying every button in every screen to see what it'll do.
The amount of customization within the trip computer is a great example. Using the small columns one, you've got lots of choices on what data you can have on that one screen. Me likey. Just got my TT locking mount, time to fab up a mount for it.

XMTraffic issues?
Hi all,
I went with the XMtraffic along with the Fisherman weather pkg, but the Traffic part doesn't seem to work. When I'm routing to a place via street address, in heavy traffic, it doesn't re-route or even indicate traffic flow / slow down. I'm making a crazy assumption it would perform similar to a cheaper Nuvi in this regard or Maps.Google.com with the traffic flow on. Perhaps there is a setting that I am missing? I have refreshed the XM signal as well... I am in the Boston, MA metro area so coverage shouldn't be an issue(?!). |
