Thumb Sealed Battery for F650GS

The OEM wet cell battery in my '02 F650GS recently packed it in. I wanted to avoid the hassle of dismantling the three panel faux tank to check battery fluids and began a three month search for a replacement sealed battery.

A&S Cycle claimed that the sealed replacement battery for my bike was not available anywhere. My only choice was stock or a gell battery that was three times as expensive and still might not fit.

BMW of Santa Cruz County's online catalog claimed to have a sealed AGM in stock, but back ordered it on me. Every couple of weeks I'd call, only to be told, "two more weeks..." When their shipment finally arrived, the manufacturer in Chi-wan-is-stan had reversed the posts on the whole bunch!

After quite a bit of surfing and phone calls, I found Battery Stuff in Grants Pass, Oregon. I bought a sealed AGM battery, sYT12CL, made by Scorpion, for only $58 and free shipping. I had it in two days. A perfect fit, nice and snug, but not too tight. Call Steve at 1-800-362-5397 or go to batterystuff.com and check it out.

Thank you. I've been waiting on that sealed cell from Santa Cruz myself... I'll just cancel that order and do this instead.

Thanks!!!!

Just ordered one too

I hate dealing with topping off the battery. And it's ALWAYS low every time I check.

Had also been trying to get the BMW Santa Cruz battery and been waiting.

You may want to post this over at Chain Gang as well.

FYI

My gel battery has the posts reversed and the cables are just long enough. I was a bit annoyed when I opened the box though.

looks like this (but posts reversed)

battery

I have been putting ytx14-bs mf in f650gs for a long time.
You need to remove the metal tray under the battery and attach the
the rubber strap to the tray bolt, it fits snug like it belonged there. it is a pretty easy mod. sorry no pics, next time i do a f650 I.ll take pics and write up some instructions.

I used BatteryStuff last week. Ordered a DRZ battery from them...$47 shipped. It showed up in 3 days...Oregon to Tennessee. Fully charged & ready to roll.

2 thumbs up so far...now to see if it'll last.

Batteries for the F650 GS are pretty common in auto parts stores around here too, but I didn't price any

I guess I should add: Got it on Thursday, had it installed within 15 minutes of arriving home... And no more hooking up that stupid overflow tube!

Scorpion Batteries

Now that BMW has the G650GS engines made in China they should just go ahead and put a gross of these batteries from Scorpion on the same boat and lose the lead-acid batteries all together......or does that make too much sense?

Due to this thread, I purchased the 12 Volt AGM Maintenance free, sYT12CL, made by Scorpion from batteryStuff.com.
I ordered the battery on August 13th and it arrived in Florida on August 15th. It was double boxed with foam in between.
Excellent shipping and packaging IMO.

I have ZERO mechanical background and actually just got my first bike last week after passing the MSF course - 2007 BMW F650 GS.The battery went in with no problems whatsoever. I pushed the old batteries' snorkel through the hole and couldn't figure out where it goes LOL. Guess it'll fall out on it's own !? .

I added a SAE cable right to the battery as well to run the slime compressor I bought. First mechanical thing I ever did in my life. Was pretty easy. Took 30 minutes and most of that was figuring out how to remove the faux gas tank.

Even with the old battery off the bike I couldn't see the line for water without a flashlight. Won't have to worry about that anymore.

Anyone have any feedback on the longevity of this battery ?

Anyway thanks for the thread. It helped me out.
